Update or cleanly reinstall the laptop’s graphics drivers first, because this is the accepted recommendation in a closely matched case where Bedrock crashed at launch while Java worked normally.^1^
1. Repair the graphics-driver installation
Because the entire laptop sometimes freezes or crashes, save open work before testing and stop repeatedly launching Bedrock if Windows remains unstable.
- Right-click Start → Device Manager → expand Display adapters.
- Note every adapter listed. Laptops commonly expose integrated and dedicated graphics; apply the following process to each applicable adapter.
- First obtain the correct Windows driver from the laptop manufacturer’s support site. If it has no current validated package, use the GPU manufacturer’s official site—avoid third-party driver sites.
- Install the driver and restart Windows. If NVIDIA or AMD’s installer offers Clean installation or Factory reset, select that option. This removes damaged or conflicting driver settings, although it can also reset custom graphics profiles.^1^
- If no manufacturer installer is available, use Device Manager:
- Right-click the display adapter → Uninstall device → Uninstall.
- Restart Windows; Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
- Return to Device Manager → right-click the adapter → Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.^2^
- Test Bedrock once.
If this started immediately after a graphics or Windows update: use an administrator account, open the adapter’s Properties → Driver → Roll Back Driver, then restart. Rollback applies only when a previous driver is available.^2^
2. Refresh the Store/Xbox sign-in session
If the driver repair does not help:
- Open the Xbox app and sign out.
- Open Microsoft Store, select the profile icon, and sign out.
- Restart Windows.
- Sign back in—with the same Microsoft account—in this order:
- Microsoft Store
- Xbox app
- Minecraft Launcher
- Launch Minecraft for Windows again.
This was the secondary action recommended in the same Bedrock-specific case.^1^
3. Repair Bedrock without reinstalling it again
Since redownloading did not help, do not repeat another uninstall/reinstall cycle.
- Windows 11: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Minecraft for Windows → Advanced options → Repair
- Windows 10: Settings → Apps → Apps & features → Minecraft for Windows → Advanced options → Repair
If Repair fails, Reset is the next Windows recovery option, but it can remove app data. Back up local worlds first using Minecraft’s Backup & Restore guidance; Minecraft Help specifically advises backing up worlds before recovery or reinstallation.^3^
4. Test for a background-software conflict
A clean boot temporarily starts Windows with non-Microsoft services and startup apps disabled.^4^
- Sign in as an administrator.
- Search for and open System Configuration (
msconfig). - Select Services → check Hide all Microsoft services → Disable all → Apply.
- Select Startup → Open Task Manager.
- Record which startup apps are enabled, then disable them.
- Restart and test Bedrock once.
If Bedrock works, re-enable half the services/startup apps at a time, restarting between tests, until the conflicting item is isolated.
After testing:
- Open
msconfig→ General → Normal startup. - Re-enable the startup apps previously disabled in Task Manager.
- Restart Windows.
5. Capture the actual crash record
If Bedrock still crashes:
- Press Win+R, enter
eventvwr.msc, and press Enter. - Open Windows Logs → Application.
- Find an Error at the crash time with Event ID 1000.
- Record:
- Faulting application name
- Faulting module name
- Exception code
- Also check for a related Event ID 1001, which is a Windows Error Reporting record and may contain additional crash information.
Repeated Event ID 1000/1001 records indicate application-crash behavior and provide the information needed for deeper investigation.^5^ Provide those fields—without account or device identifiers—to Minecraft Support or the laptop/GPU manufacturer. If Windows itself continues freezing or restarting outside Minecraft, prioritize the laptop manufacturer’s hardware and driver diagnostics rather than further game reinstalls.
