The missing Add phone number option is expected for some personal Microsoft accounts because Microsoft is phasing out SMS for authentication and account recovery.
Add another verification method
- Open the Microsoft account Security page:
https://account.microsoft.com/security - Select Manage how I sign in.
- Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
- Add one of the available methods:
- Recovery email address
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Passkey, using your face, fingerprint, or device PIN
- Complete the displayed verification instructions.
Microsoft states that the phone-number option may not be available and that accounts can have up to 10 supported verification methods.^1^
Profile information versus account security
Your info → Edit account info manages sign-in aliases, such as email addresses. It is not the main page for adding account-recovery methods. If that page offers Add email but not Add phone number, there is no setting in Windows 11 that can restore the missing phone option.
Microsoft is moving personal accounts from SMS toward verified email and passkeys because SMS is vulnerable to phishing and SIM-swap attacks.^2^
If the intention is merely to store a contact telephone number on the profile—not to use it for sign-in or verification—the available documentation does not provide a general phone-contact field for this personal-account page.
