I just tried to sign in to my microsoft account in order to play minecraft only after 4 hours of not playing, however when i tried signing in an error message saying "microsoft does not recognise this email" upon using the sign-in helper, there was no issue with my email account but i cant sign in. I think i might have been hacked but i cant contact support or fill in the account recovery form as they do not recognise my microsoft account email that i am trying to recover. Someone please help i have alot of stuff on my minecraft account and i dont know what to do.

    Hello

It sounds like your account might have been hacked and taken over.

I am so sorry this happened. Also, you filled out the wrong form. You do not want to use the "Account Recovery" form. Please fill out the Recover My Account form: https://aka.ms/recovermyaccount (I know, they all sound so similar but they are not the same forms)

Instruction for each field can be found here: https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/manage/guidance-notes-for-the-microsoft-account-recovery-form

Contact email: Use an email address you currently have access to. This is where Microsoft can contact you regarding your request.

Response time: A response may take around 5 business days, although this is not guaranteed. Please save this to your safe sender: [email protected]

Date of birth: Pay close attention to the required date format. This is an area where users sometimes make mistakes because it is asking for US date format.

Account information: Provide as much accurate information as possible. If you genuinely don't know an answer, it is better to leave it blank if allowed rather than guess.

Device and location: If possible, complete the form using a computer, Wi-Fi network, and location you normally use to access your account. This may help Microsoft recognize your usual sign-in activity.

    ============================

Also, to avoid any misunderstanding or false expectations, I'm an independent community user. I can help you navigate and make sure you are using the right tool/resources, but I don't have access to your account and cannot manually recover or unblock it. The final decision is made by the account security review team, so I cannot guarantee the outcome.

Microsoft Support also cannot bypass the required account verification or reinstatement process.

Lastly, please don't share any passwords, verification codes, or other private account information here, as this is a public forum.

Try another email alias, phone number, or Skype name previously attached to the Microsoft account; if none is recognized, contact Microsoft Support and report that the original username stopped working.

    1. Test another existing sign-in name

On the Microsoft sign-in page, try:

    • Any secondary email address previously added to the account.
    • The phone number associated with it.
    • Its Skype name, if applicable.
    • The exact original domain—for example, verify whether it was outlook.com, outlook.co.uk, hotmail.com, or another country-specific domain.

Microsoft specifically recommends another alias or phone number when an email address is not recognized.^1^

    If one works, immediately:

    1. Run a full malware scan in Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Scan options → Full scan → Scan now.
    2. Change the Microsoft account password.
    3. Review the account’s security information and remove anything unfamiliar. Microsoft recommends scanning the computer before changing the password when compromise is suspected.^2^

    2. Escalate the unrecognized username

Since the Sign-in Helper has already failed to recognize the address, do not keep repeating it:

    1. Open Contact Microsoft Support.
    2. Enter Microsoft account username stopped working and select Get Help.
    3. Select Contact Support when offered.
    4. If sign-in is required, use another working Microsoft account or create one solely to contact support.
    5. State clearly:
      • The original email is no longer recognized.
      • Access stopped within a four-hour period.
      • The account owns or is linked to Minecraft.
      • The Sign-in Helper could not locate the account.
      • You suspect the sign-in alias may have been changed without permission.

Microsoft’s official guidance directs users who still receive “We couldn't find an account with that username” to contact support and report that the username stopped working.^1^

Prepare ownership details such as previous passwords, Xbox Gamertag, Minecraft purchase information, order receipts, and the approximate account-creation date. Do not post passwords, codes, payment details, or unfamiliar recovery addresses publicly.

    Important limitation

Support can investigate the available recovery path, but agents cannot manually send password-reset links, access the account, or change its security details.^3^ If two-step verification was enabled and none of its verification methods remain accessible, Microsoft states that the recovery form cannot bypass it.^4^

If Microsoft account recovery does not restore the Minecraft entitlement, contact Minecraft Support separately with the purchase details and Gamertag to ask what Minecraft-specific options remain.^5^
