HELP - I can't get into my admin account!

I'm sent in loop after loop after loop. My authenticator app is no longer connected, but I cannot sign in and I'm the only admin on the account. It keeps saying it can't be verified. No one answers the phone when I call and I cannot sign into the admin center to submit a ticket.

Select Other verification options or Sign in another way on the verification screen and use any previously registered SMS, voice-call, security-key, or other method; if none appears or it also fails, use the recovery branch matching your account type. [^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/topic/-account-verification-system-is-having-trouble-error-message-when-you-try-to-sign-in-by-using-a-work-or-school-account-d5030271-026f-07f6-0c84-e4d8edbbc97b ""Account verification system is having trouble" error message when you try to sign in by using a work or school account")

Work or school Microsoft 365/Entra account

If this is your organization’s only Global Administrator account, contact Microsoft business support by phone and request a Data Protection/tenant recovery case. Reinstalling Authenticator does not reconnect the old MFA registration, and you cannot administratively reset your own unavailable method while locked out.

    1. Open Microsoft’s current country/region phone-number list and call the appropriate business support number. ^2^
    2. Describe the issue precisely:
      • “I have lost access to the only Global Administrator account.”
      • “The password is accepted, but Microsoft Authenticator is no longer registered and MFA cannot be completed.”
      • “There are no other administrators or working verification methods.”
      • “I need a tenant-recovery ticket routed to the Data Protection team.”
    3. Have these ownership-verification details ready:
      • Organization and tenant/domain information
      • Administrator sign-in name
      • Subscription and billing/payment details
      • Registered phone number
      • An alternate reachable email address
    4. If prompted by the automated system, choose business email, Microsoft 365/Office 365 for business, technical support, and create a service request. This sole-admin Authenticator-loop escalation is the documented resolution in the matching Microsoft Q&A case. ^3^

Microsoft’s business-support documentation confirms that phone support is available without first opening an online admin-center request. It also notes that verification may use a code sent to the email address or phone number registered in the organization profile. ^4^

If the subscription was purchased entirely through a Microsoft partner or reseller, contact that partner instead; Microsoft directs partner-purchased subscriptions to the partner for support. ^4^

If another privileged administrator actually exists

That administrator can reset the affected account’s MFA registration:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center.
    2. Go to Entra ID → Users.
    3. Select the locked account.
    4. Open Authentication methods.
    5. Select Require re-register MFA.
    6. At the next sign-in, register Authenticator again and add another authentication method.

Because the affected account is an administrator, the assisting account must hold a sufficiently privileged role—such as Privileged Authentication Administrator or Global Administrator—rather than an ordinary Authentication Administrator. The re-registration action removes existing Authenticator, phone, and software OATH methods so they can be configured again. ^5^ ^6^

    Personal Microsoft account

If the address is a personal Microsoft account rather than an organizational Microsoft 365/Entra administrator account, do not request tenant recovery. Use Microsoft’s personal-account sign-in helper or Get Help from the customer-support page; support agents cannot directly bypass account security or change account details. ^2^

    After access is restored

Create at least two cloud-only emergency access (“break-glass”) Global Administrator accounts and reserve them for lockout scenarios. Microsoft recommends two or more emergency accounts specifically to prevent complete administrative lockout when normal MFA devices are unavailable. ^7^

    Hi Erica,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

First of all, I hope you understand that this forum is a community where users share information and help one another. Moderators on this forum are unable to directly escalate your issue or assist you with creating a support ticket. However, I will do my best to assist you within the scope of my capabilities.

Since you mentioned that you have already tried contacting support by phone but were unable to resolve the issue, you may consider the following workaround:

Register for a new tenant by signing up for a trial subscription, and then submit a support request from that tenant.

To set up a new tenant, please follow the steps below:

    1. Visit Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365. From there, you can sign up for a trial subscription and follow the prompts to create a new tenant.
    2. Follow the guided setup process to create a new account and tenant.
    3. Once the new tenant has been created, you should be able to access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and submit a support ticket requesting assistance from the Data Protection team regarding your previous tenant.
    4. In your ticket description, clearly explain that you are trying to regain access to your previous Microsoft 365 tenant and require assistance from the Data Protection team. You can use or adapt the following message:

    "Hello,

I’m currently unable to access my previous Microsoft 365 tenant because I have lost access to my MFA authentication method.

I created this new tenant solely to request assistance. I kindly ask to be connected with the Data Protection team so that I can verify my identity and receive assistance in recovering access to my original tenant.

This is urgent, as I rely on Microsoft 365 for my work and have been unable to operate for several days. I’m available to provide any documentation or verification required to support the recovery process."

To submit a support request, go to Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Support > Help & Support. You can also access the support request page here:

    https://admin.microsoft.com/#/support/requests

Please remember to cancel the trial subscription after your issue has been resolved to avoid any unintended charges. For detailed instructions, you can refer to Cancel your Microsoft business subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center | Microsoft Learn.

I hope these steps help you regain access to your tenant as soon as possible. I’m glad to assist and sincerely hope the information provided is helpful. If you encounter any difficulties while following these steps or have any updates regarding the issue, please feel free to share them. I’ll continue to assist you.
