First, I need to have the business email be correct.

I want to eliminate this onmicrosoft.com stuff.

How do I make my business email be: @LeadershipInitiativesGroup.com?

Add and verify LeadershipInitiativesGroup.com in Microsoft 365, then change your user’s primary username and email address to use that domain; the onmicrosoft.com domain will remain behind the scenes but will no longer need to appear in your business email address.^1^

    Set up the business domain

You must own LeadershipInitiativesGroup.com, have access to its DNS settings, and be a Microsoft 365 Global Administrator for the domain setup.

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    2. Go to Settings → Domains.
    3. Select Add domain.
    4. Enter LeadershipInitiativesGroup.com.
    5. Follow the wizard to verify ownership. Microsoft will provide a DNS record—normally a TXT record—to add at the company where the domain’s DNS is hosted.
    6. After verification, add the DNS records requested by the wizard to connect Microsoft 365 services.^2^

If changing the domain’s MX record, be aware that all email addressed to this domain will begin going to Microsoft 365. Create a Microsoft 365 user and mailbox for every person currently receiving mail at the domain before making that change.^2^

If the domain is registered outside Microsoft, it remains registered there; you only update its DNS records so Microsoft 365 can use it.^3^

    Change your email address

After the domain shows as verified:

    1. In the admin center, go to Users → Active users.
    2. Select your account.
    3. On the Account tab, select Manage username and email.
    4. Enter the desired text before the @.
    5. In the domain list, select LeadershipInitiativesGroup.com.
    6. Select Done.
    7. Sign out of Microsoft 365, then sign back in using the new address.^4^

This changes the account’s username/sign-in address as well as its email domain. A User Administrator can change the user address after the domain has been added, although the initial domain setup requires Global Administrator access. An Exchange license is required to send and receive email from the Microsoft 365 tenant.^2^

Make it the default for future users

Go to Settings → Domains, select LeadershipInitiativesGroup.com, and choose Set as default. This affects new accounts only; existing users must be changed individually.^1^

The original onmicrosoft.com domain cannot be deleted because Microsoft 365 uses it internally. After these changes, customers can send mail to and see your @LeadershipInitiativesGroup.com address instead.^1^
