Why does Anthropic Claude cost reporting in Azure Cost Management not provide the same resource-level visibility as Azure OpenAI?
We are using Anthropic Claude models in Azure AI Foundry and analyzing usage and cost through the Azure Cost Management API and Cost Details API.
For Azure OpenAI resources, billing data provides resource and meter information that can be used to attribute usage and cost to specific resources. However, for Anthropic models, the Cost Management API currently shows Claude marketplace consumption information, but does not provide visibility into:
- Azure AI Foundry Project
- Foundry Resource
- Model / Deployment
- Usage
- Cost
As a result, when multiple Azure AI Foundry Projects and Anthropic deployments exist, it is difficult to determine which project or deployment generated the reported usage and associated cost.
Our objective is to establish the following relationship:
Foundry Project → Resource → Model/Deployment → Usage → Cost
When querying the Cost Management API and Cost Details API, we can see Anthropic-related billing information, but we are unable to identify any Foundry Project, deployment, or other resource-level identifier that allows us to correlate the reported usage and cost back to a specific project or deployment.
Questions
- Is there a supported API that provides project-level or deployment-level attribution for Anthropic model usage and cost?
- Is there any identifier, dimension, resource ID, meter information, or reporting mechanism that can be used to correlate Cost Management data with Azure AI Foundry Projects and Deployments?
- What is the recommended approach for performing utilization and cost analysis across multiple Foundry Projects and Anthropic deployments?
- Are there any plans to expose Foundry Project or deployment-level attribution through Cost Management APIs or Cost Details APIs?
Any guidance or recommended approach would be appreciated.
