As of 3 weeks ago, I haven't been able to get my MFA code for one of the companies that I used to get MFA verification code from. Just today, I tried to change my password for another company and I went through verification to change my password and now I'm not getting an email from them either anymore. Did something change with the way Outlook sends emails? I added these emails to my safelist too and I'm still not get an email from them. I need help please

    Hi,

    Thank you for reaching out.

I can see why this would be concerning, especially since you are now experiencing two different verification issues with separate companies. Although both problems involve not receiving a verification message, they should be handled separately because MFA codes and password-reset emails may be managed through different systems.

    1. MFA verification code

For the company where you are no longer receiving the MFA code, please contact that company’s IT administrator and explaining that you're unable to sign in because you're stuck between Microsoft Outlook and the Microsoft Authenticator app and are no longer receiving authentication prompts or codes.

You can specifically ask whether they can:

    • Reset your MFA settings
    • Require MFA re-registration
    • Remove your existing Authenticator registration so you can set it up again

You may also want to share the following Microsoft article with them: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID | …

If you are unsure who your IT administrator is, you can refer to this official Microsoft guide for assistance: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Once your IT administrator resets your MFA registration, you should be able to sign in again and go through the Microsoft Authenticator setup process from the beginning, including scanning a new QR code on your device.

    1. Password-reset email

For the password-reset email that has not arrived, please try the following:

    • Check the Junk Email or Spam folder.
    • Review Settings > Mail > Junk email > Blocked senders and domains in Outlook and make sure the sender’s address or domain is not listed.

    User's image

    • Search your mailbox for the sender, company name, or relevant keywords.
    • Check inbox rules in Settings > Mail > Rules. Review rules that move, archive, or delete messages. Temporarily disable any rule that may affect the sender.

I hope your issue gets resolved soon. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.

For Outlook.com and personal Microsoft accounts, nothing in the documented guidance indicates that Outlook changed how these MFA emails are sent. The documented causes are usually delivery or account-protection issues.

    Try these checks in order:

    1. Check Junk Email for the missing messages. Valid verification emails come from @accountprotection.microsoft.com. Mark that sender as trusted.
    2. Confirm the messages are going to the correct mailbox. Verification codes sent by email can only be sent to the primary alias or another email already added as a sign-in verification method.
    3. Check whether Outlook.com is blocking or filtering the sender. In Outlook.com, review Settings > Mail > Junk email and make sure the sender or domain is not in Blocked senders and domains. Since safe listing was already tried, this is still worth checking.
    4. If the code is sent by text for some services, check phone-related issues.
      • Disable blocking of texts from unknown numbers.
      • If prompted, choose I don’t have a code to request another one.
      • Make sure the inbox is not full and the messaging app is working.
      • VOIP numbers cannot be used for verification codes; a mobile number is required.
    5. Avoid repeated code requests. Excessive or repetitive requests can trigger a temporary block where Microsoft will not send codes.
    6. Consider temporary protection delays. Microsoft may temporarily delay or block code delivery because of unusual activity or heavy compromised traffic from a geographic region. These cases are described as resolving automatically after a period of time.
    7. If the verification address is another Microsoft account such as Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, or MSN, use private browsing for both accounts.
      • Open one browser window in privacy mode and sign in to the account requesting the code.
      • Keep that window open when prompted for the code.
      • Open a second privacy-mode window.
      • Sign in to the alternate Microsoft email account there and retrieve the code. This avoids one Microsoft account sign-in from signing out the other.
    8. Verify the security info on the account. Sign in to the Security basics page and select Update info: Sign in
    9. If access to the listed verification method is no longer available, select I don’t have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts to replace the security info.
    10. If still blocked, use Microsoft support paths. Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details, but the sign-in helper and Contact Support are the documented next steps:
