If only the main Xbox account fails and another account can sign in on the same device, this usually points to an account-side sign-in issue rather than a console-wide problem.
Do this first:
- Use the Microsoft Sign-in Helper.
- Enter the email address or phone number for the affected Microsoft account.
- Follow the steps it returns for password, verification code, username, or account recovery issues.
- If the password is known but sign-in still loops, use the same Sign-in Helper flow.
- That is the recommended path when the password has stopped working or the account cannot complete sign-in.
- If verification codes are involved, follow the verification-code troubleshooting path.
- The account recovery guidance specifically points to verification code troubleshooting when codes are not arriving or not working.
- If the account is set up for passwordless sign-in and this is on Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S, use passwordless sign-in:
- Select Use another device on the console.
- Open the microsoft.com link shown on the console in a browser.
- Enter the code from the console and complete sign-in with the passwordless method.
- Xbox 360 does not support passwordless sign-in.
- If the loop continues with only that account, contact Microsoft Support for account-side review.
- Use Contact Microsoft Support, enter the problem, select Get Help, and then Contact Support if offered.
- Support agents cannot send password reset links or directly change account details.
If there was also an unusual sign-in alert on that account, review recent activity and secure the account from the Security basics page, then reset the password if needed.
