To use the HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP as a scanner on the new Windows PC, first make sure the device is installed in Windows as a printer/scanner device.

    1. Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    2. Select Add a printer or scanner or Add device and wait while Windows searches.
    3. When the HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP appears, select Add device.

If it does not appear or the scanner part is missing:

    1. In Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, remove the device if it is already listed.
    2. Select Remove device.
    3. Then select Add a printer or scanner again and reinstall it.

If the printer is shared from another Windows PC on the same private network:

    1. On the new PC, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    2. Select Add device next to Add a printer & scanner.
    3. If the printer is not listed, select Add a new device manually.
    4. Choose Select a shared printer by name.
    5. Enter the shared printer path in one of these formats:
      • \\computer_name\printer_name
      • \\ip_address\printer_name
      • http://computer_name/printer_name/.printer
      • http://ip_address/printer_name/.printer
    6. Complete the prompts to install it.

After the device is installed, Windows troubleshooting for printer/scanner issues is available here:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Select Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    3. Select the HP device, then More devices and printer settings.
    4. Right-click the printer and select Troubleshoot.
    5. Follow the wizard.

If scanning still does not work, update the printer driver from the printer manufacturer’s website. The context also notes that scan-capable printers usually require the manufacturer’s driver and software for scanning features.
