Windows has no control over the actions associated to the function keys, because the actions vary from laptop to laptop, it is always the laptop manufacturer that controls the actions.

    1

If pressing a function key does not product the correct action, try pressing Fn + the function key.

If that works, then press Fn + Esc to toggle off the function lock on your keyboard.

    2

If that does not resolve the problem, boot your laptop into BIOS and search in there for a setting to toggle between Function Keys and Action/Media Keys.

    3

If that setting is not available, open the Lenovo Vantage app on your laptop and check in the Input - User Defined Key section for anything that may be blocking those function keys.

    Try these in order:

    1. Press Fn + Esc once.
      • On many keyboards, this toggles Function Lock.
      • After that, test F1, F2, and F3 again.
    2. If the keys still do the wrong action, use Fn + F1/F2/F3.
      • On keyboards with an Fn key, holding Fn while pressing the key uses the alternate command.
    3. If the keyboard has an F Lock key, press it.
      • F Lock Off = alternate functions work.
      • F Lock On = standard F1, F2, F3 functions work.
    4. If the goal is to make the keyboard easier to use while testing, open Start > Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard.
      • Check whether Sticky keys or Filter keys are affecting key behavior.
      • Windows logo key + Ctrl + O opens the on-screen keyboard for testing.
    5. If none of that changes the behavior, check the Lenovo BIOS/firmware setting for function key behavior.
      • Look for a setting that switches between Function Keys and Media/Action Keys.
