So when i save a restore point in windows 11 pro, after a day or two i get the error message when i check the drive i save them to wich is c drive also windows drive the error messsage is "Using System Protection on a drive that contains system image backups causes other snapshots to be deleted faster than normal" and i get a yellow triangle along with the message and i never had that issue before.
It also lowers how much space i dedicated to from 6% 111GB to 2% 37GB the drive is a Samsung 990 pro 2 tb and there is 1 1/2 Tb free of space on it.
Why all of a sudden do i get that message

- Every time it gives me the error wich is every 2 day i create a new system protection point.
- Every 2nd day it changds my max usage from 6 % to 2 %

Anonym2026-07-16T07:23:55.38+00:00 Thanks for your response. Since you've confirmed you're only using System Protection and Windows keeps changing the maximum usage from 6% back to 2% every couple of days, that is not the normal behavior expected from simply creating restore points.
I'd like to narrow down whether Windows is changing the setting or if the shadow storage allocation itself is being modified.
Please open an elevated Command Prompt and run:
vssadmin list shadowstorageThen post the complete output.
Also, when the issue occurs again and you see that Max Usage has returned to 2%, please check whether the value is still displayed as 2% in:
Control Panel > System > System Protection > Configure
Once we have the
vssadminoutput, I can determine the next troubleshooting step rather than guessing at the cause.

Since the same warning and behavior can also be observed on your daughter's laptop and your girlfriend's PC, this suggests that the issue is not specific to your Windows installation or Samsung 990 Pro drive.
Based on all the testing completed so far, I do not have any further forum-based troubleshooting steps to suggest. Please contact Microsoft Support for further investigation, as outlined in my previous response. If Microsoft Support is able to determine whether this behavior is expected or related to a specific Windows component, I would be interested to hear what they find.

The warning itself can appear when Windows detects shadow-copy storage conditions that may cause restore points to be removed sooner than expected.
At this stage, I don't want to have you continue repeating the same troubleshooting steps. The behavior you're seeing is unusual, especially since you're only using the built-in System Protection feature and have a large amount of free disk space available.
I recommend contacting Microsoft Support so they can investigate why the shadow-storage allocation is being automatically reset on your system and determine whether there is a Windows component or configuration specific to this installation that is triggering the change.

- Click Get Home Support
- Type a brief description of your issue in the search box.
- Click Get Help and select Contact Support below.

2026-07-20T03:50:12.83+00:00 Thanks for your response. I suggest completely recreating the System Protection configuration for drive C:.
- Open System Protection (
SystemPropertiesProtection). - Select C: and click Configure.
- Choose Disable system protection and click Apply.
- Reboot Windows, then return to the same dialog, re-enable System protection, set Max Usage back to 6%, and create a new restore point manually.
After doing this, please monitor it for 2-3 days and check whether the value remains at 6% or automatically returns to 2%.
