Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hello Rebecca Burton,
Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Q&A forum
I understand you want to know whether the Microsoft 365 offer that came with your new computer can be used to extend your existing subscription.
It depends on the type of offer included with the PC:
If the PC includes a Microsoft 365 product key
- You’ll receive a 25‑character key (either printed, emailed, or shown in your device setup).
- When you redeem it at https://setup.office.com/, the extra time adds (stacks) onto your current subscription as long as you use the same Microsoft account.
If the PC includes a Microsoft 365 trial (common on new computers)
- This is often a 1‑month or 3‑month trial.
- No product key is provided.
- It cannot extend a paid subscription. It simply starts a separate trial on your account.
If the PC includes a “Microsoft 365 included” OEM offer
(Sometimes labeled as “1-year included,” “device offer,” or shown during Windows setup)
- Activation happens automatically through the device, not through a key.
- These offers do not stack with an existing subscription.
- They create a separate plan attached to the Microsoft account used on the device.
How to check what you received
- Look for a 25-character key → this can extend your subscription.
- If there’s no key, then it’s a trial or device-bound offer → this cannot extend your existing plan.
