A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Hi David,
Sorry to hear about the PC disaster that’s serious. It’s great that your OneDrive synced back up, but I totally get how frustrating it is when your Personal Vault doesn’t show up like it used to. Let’s fix that.
What you can Try:
Unlock the Vault
After a fresh Windows install, OneDrive might not automatically re-enable the vault:
Click the OneDrive icon in the system tray.
Go to Settings or click the three dots.
Look for “Unlock Personal Vault” and follow the prompts.
Try the Web Version
Sometimes the vault is easier to access online:
Go to onedrive.live.com.
Sign in and check if Personal Vault shows up in the root folder or sidebar.
If it’s there, try unlocking it from the web.
Reset OneDrive
If it’s still missing:
Press Windows + R, type:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
Hit Enter and wait for OneDrive to restart and re-sync.
Reinstall OneDrive
If resetting doesn’t help:
Uninstall OneDrive from Settings > Apps.
Download the latest version from here.
Reinstall and sign in again.
Check the Recycle Bin
Just in case it was deleted:
Visit the OneDrive Recycle Bin.
Look for “Personal Vault” and restore it if it’s there.
