  • OS: Win11 Pro 25H2
  • CPU: R5-9600X
  • GPU: RTX4070Ti
    • Driver Version: 580.97 WHQL Studio Driver
  • Monitor 1: VX3219 (up to 2K)
  • Monitor 2: XV240Y X1 (up to 1080p)
  • Display option: Extended
  • Cable: Both DisplayPort

issue: When only one monitor is plugged in, Monitor 1 can display 2k as normal; however, no matter the motherboard or the GPU was plugged into, Monitor 1 cannot choose 2k (the 2560x1440 option just disappeared) in settings when two monitors were plugged in.

This happens no matter which monitor is the main display.

    Hello 米夜

Thank you for posting your question on the Microsoft Answers forum.

I see you're experiencing a specific issue with your dual monitor setup in Windows 11 Pro: the 2K resolution (2560x1440) option for your primary monitor (VX3219) disappears immediately after connecting a secondary monitor (XV240Y X1).

Meanwhile, I've outlined some general troubleshooting steps you can try, which often resolve this issue. If you encounter difficulties with any step, please let me know the outcome so we can better assist you:

    • Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooting > Run “Hardware and Devices”.
    • Check for updates: Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates (25H2 includes the latest display fix)
    • Open NVIDIA Control Panel > Under “Display,” go to “Change resolution” > Select “Monitor 1 (VX3219)” > Look for the PC resolution list, not the ‘HD’ or “SD” list. If 2560 x 1440 is listed, select that resolution.
      • If not listed, click the “Custom...” button, check “Enable resolutions not displayed on the monitor,” then click “Create Custom Resolution” > Enter 2560 for horizontal pixels and 1440 for vertical lines > Test the resolution and save.
    • Right-click on the desktop > “Display settings” > Select “Monitor 1 (VX3219)” > Scroll to “Advanced display” > “Display adapter properties” > On the ‘Adapter’ tab, click “List all modes” > Select 2560x1440 (60Hz or native refresh rate) > “Apply”.
    • Replace the DisplayPort cable/port on the GPU to troubleshoot. Ensure the cable meets DP 1.2 or higher 2K certification. > Temporarily set Monitor 2 to a lower refresh rate (e.g., 60Hz) via its OSD menu. > Disconnect Monitor 2. > Set Monitor 1's resolution to 2560x1440. > Reconnect. > Reapply.
    • Final method: Download from NVIDIA via this link: Download Official NVIDIA Drivers | NVIDIA > Perform a clean install using the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode. Note: Please back up your system first—driver updates rarely cause issues, but problems may arise if interrupted.
