Regarding Bot Joining Teams: Handling teams.live.com/meet Links

Hi Microsoft Developer Community,

I'm currently working on a company's internal project that involves having a bot automatically join a Teams meeting. We've successfully implemented the bot to join meetings using the https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join link format, which we understand is the standard and recommended approach when using the Microsoft Graph API and Azure Communication Services (ACS) Calling SDK.

However, we've observed that in some scenarios, meeting links for Free Plan users are provided in a simplified format, like https://teams.live.com/meet/ (e.g., https://teams.live.com/meet/numericID?p=parameter).

Based on our research, these teams.live.com/meet links appear to be primarily designed for direct user access. They don't seem to contain the detailed parameters (such as threadId, messageId, tenantId, etc.) that are necessary for a bot to automatically join a meeting. Currently, there doesn't seem to be a publicly available API or SDK that can directly accept these simplified links and convert them into the meetup-join format, or allow a bot to join directly.

I'd like to check with the community:

Is there any officially recommended or known method (via a public API, SDK, or other technical approach) that allows a Teams bot to process or convert teams.live.com/meet formatted links to automatically join meetings?

  1. If no direct programmatic solution exists at present, are there any workarounds or best practices that can be used to handle these types of links for bot integration, without resorting to unreliable web scraping (e.g., simulating browser behavior to parse redirects)?

Thanks for your time and help!
