Suggestion: Improve Microsoft Account Device Management for PCs

Issue Description:

  • After resetting a Windows laptop or desktop, a new BitLocker recovery key is generated and uploaded to the Microsoft account.
  • The device can be seen under Windows account → Linked devices, but in the Microsoft Account Device Management page it shows “No device found”.
  • Trying to register the PC manually with its serial number fails, since the registration function is mainly designed for Xbox, Surface, or mobile devices, not for regular PCs.

Impact:

  • Users cannot fully manage their laptops or desktops in the Microsoft Account device page.
  • Frequent system resets or updates cause confusion when old records disappear and new ones are not properly reflected.
  • The device management page loses its purpose of being a centralized place to manage all devices.

Suggested Improvements:

1.     Support full registration and management for PCs: Allow laptops and desktops to be properly listed and managed, not just Xbox or Surface.

2.     Clarify scope of support: If PC support is limited, clearly state this on the device management page to avoid misleading users.

3.     Integrate BitLocker records with device entries: Since BitLocker keys are already uploaded, the associated PC should automatically appear in the device list.

4.     Enhance user experience: Provide a more intuitive way to view and manage PCs, especially after system resets.
