Hello,

I’m using Windows Server 2025 (English version), and I’m repeatedly getting an error when trying to install recent Windows updates (for example, KB5070881).

In the CBS logs, I see entries like these:

Error NTSTATUS_FROM_WIN32(774)

Hydration failed for component Microsoft-Windows-Spelling-Dictionaries-Turkish-Main

Error Code: 0x80070306 (ERROR_ERRORS_ENCOUNTERED)

CorruptPayloadFile: datamap.041F.dat / ExpressiveInput.041F.lex

It looks like the Turkish spelling dictionary component (Microsoft-Windows-Spelling-Dictionaries-Turkish-Main) is corrupted or blocking the update process.

I already tried:

Running sfc /scannow

Running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Clearing C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and C:\Windows\System32\catroot2

Restarting and reattempting Windows Update

But the update keeps failing at the same point with the same “Hydration failed” message.

I would like to remove or reset the Turkish Spelling Dictionary component, since the server is English-only and I don’t need it.

However, this component does not appear in Settings → Language options, since Server editions don’t include the UI.

Is there an official way to remove or repair this capability/package (e.g., via PowerShell or DISM) on Windows Server 2025?

Any guidance or Microsoft-supported steps would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello,

Based on your CBS logs and the error code 0x80070306, it appears the update KB5070881 is failing due to corruption in the Turkish spelling dictionary component (Microsoft-Windows-Spelling-Dictionaries-Turkish-Main). Since your server is English-only and this component is not needed, removing it is a valid and supported approach.

You can use the following steps to remove the package:

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run: dism /Online /Get-Packages Locate the exact name of the Turkish dictionary package (e.g., Package_for_KBXXXXXXX~...041F...).
  2. Then run: dism /Online /Remove-Package /PackageName:<exact_package_name> Replace <exact_package_name> with the full name from step 1.

Alternatively, using PowerShell:

powershell

Get-WindowsPackage -Online | Where-Object {$_.PackageName -like "*Turkish*"}
Remove-WindowsPackage -Online -PackageName "<exact_package_name>"

After removal, restart the server and retry the update. This method is safe and aligns with Microsoft’s supported servicing tools for Windows Server.

If this resolves your issue, feel free to mark this answer as accepted so others can benefit too. Let us know if you need help identifying the package name—we’re happy to assist further.

Best regards,

Domic Vo.
