My Goal to Become a Windows Developer – Request for Career Guidance
Dear Windows Development Team,
My name is İmran, and I’m an aspiring student planning to study Computer Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. I’m writing this letter to share my passion for technology that has grown since childhood and to kindly ask for your guidance on my dream of one day becoming a Windows Update Developer at Microsoft.
Ever since I was a child, I’ve had a deep curiosity about Windows software. When I was just 5 years old, I started exploring system folders such as Windows, Program Files, and System32. I often ended up breaking my system while investigating these directories — but instead of being discouraged, I actually enjoyed it. Fixing what I had broken made me feel happy and accomplished. I truly believe that every time we repair something ourselves, we grow and learn more.
I frequently formatted my computer just to try out new versions of Windows. That’s when I discovered the Rufus tool and started installing different versions on my own. I loved exploring the changes and features. When Windows 10 was released, I was thrilled. I immediately used Rufus to install it, and the new interface, logo, and design completely amazed me. I dove into the Control Panel and began exploring every detail.
Over time, I started learning more advanced system tools like regedit and cmd, especially during a period when I was interested in games and their files kept getting corrupted. These experiences pushed me to better understand the inner workings of Windows systems. By the time I reached high school, I had gained a solid knowledge of Windows internals, system logic, and even basic coding. I became someone who not only loved fixing problems but also enjoyed discovering how things work under the surface.
Now, I have a clear goal: to study Computer Engineering at Istanbul Technical University and, after graduation, to work at Microsoft. More specifically, I want to be part of the Windows Update team — helping users by solving system bugs, software issues, and security vulnerabilities to improve their experience.
I asked myself: “Why can’t I become a Windows developer?” I know it’s not impossible, and I truly believe I can achieve it with hard work, learning, and the right guidance.
That’s why I would be truly grateful if you could give me some advice on how to follow the right path. What technical skills should I focus on after graduation? What areas should I specialize in to be considered for a role at Microsoft? How should I prepare for job applications and interviews? And most importantly, how can I stand out as a strong candidate?
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my letter. Microsoft’s vision and user-focused approach are a major source of inspiration for young people like me. It would be an honor to one day be a part of that vision and contribute meaningfully to it.
Sincerely,
İmran Özgün
