My Microsoft account ([moderator note: PII removed]@gmail.com) was hacked 1-3 days ago.

The hacker changed my primary email (alias) and removed my phone number, so now my original email shows that no account exists.

I still remember my previous passwords and I have proof of ownership:

  • I purchased Minecraft on this account
  • My Xbox gamertag is [moderator note: PII removed]

Please help me recover my account. I can provide any additional information needed.

    Hi Lucy Butter,

I understand how concerning this is, especially since the primary alias was changed and your original email now shows that no account exists.

Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot access the account or reverse changes from the Microsoft side. In this situation, I would suggest these official recovery steps:

    1. Review the Official Microsoft Guide

Before attempting any recovery, please read Microsoft's official guide on what to do when your account is compromised. This provides critical tips for success: How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account - Microsoft Support

    2. Fill Out the Account Recovery Form (ACSR)

If you cannot sign in, you must use the automated Account Recovery Form (ACSR). Use this link to begin the process: https://account.live.com/acsr

Important: The account recovery form can only be used if two-step verification isn't turned on.

The form requires you to provide as much information as possible to prove that you own the account. Please be patient, as the review process can take some time.

For detailed information about the Microsoft Account Recovery Form help, see the link below: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form - Microsoft Support

    3. Contact Dedicated Private Account Support

If reviewing the tips does not allow you to complete the Recovery Form successfully, or if the hacker has changed your all password and security details, you can contact a support agent for further assistance.

    1. Visit the Microsoft Support contact page: Contact - Microsoft Support
    2. In the search bar provided on the page, type "Account Recovery" and press Enter.
    3. Click on the "Get Help" button that appears.
    4. Scroll down the page until you see and click on the "Contact Support" option.
    5. When prompted to select your product or service, choose "Other Products".
    6. For the category, choose "Manage Account Security".
    7. Look for and click on "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".
    8. When prompted, provide a valid contact email where Microsoft can reach you regarding your case.
    9. Explain your situation clearly: Be concise but provide all the relevant details.

It is also important to set expectations clearly. Microsoft says support agents cannot send password reset links or directly access and change account details, but they can still guide you through the official recovery options available for the account.

I hope this guidance helps you connect with the specialized team needed to secure and recover your account.
