Several years of emails missing from Outlook.com

Thank you for your response. I have now followed your instructions and tried to contact Outlook.com Support through Outlook.com.

However, I am unable to reach a support agent. I select Help, enter my issue, and choose the option for further assistance, but the system only tells me that there are no results for the problem and offers Community help. I have tried several different descriptions of the issue, but the result is always the same.

I therefore cannot access the Outlook.com Support that you have directed me to.

Could you please provide me with another way to contact Outlook.com Support directly, for example via chat or another support channel, so that someone can investigate my mailbox?

This is not simply about one missing email. Several years of emails appear to be missing from my mailbox. My Inbox only goes back to June 6, 2020, my Sent folder only goes back to 2022, while my Drafts still contain emails from 2017. I have used the same Hotmail account for many years and have never intentionally deleted these emails.

I am specifically trying to recover an important manuscript that I emailed to myself around spring/summer 2018, but I also believe that other emails from this period may be missing.

Since you mentioned that this forum cannot access the mailbox backend, I need to speak to someone who can investigate the mailbox itself. Please let me know how I can reach the appropriate Outlook.com support team.

Thank you for your response. Sorry that the Help does not function as expected.

There's one more channel for personal support - which is Microsoft Support - Contact Us

First click on the link above, then choose Show expanded list of products.

Click on Outlook

and choose Home support

Type in "Live chat" and click Get help then Contact Support at the bottom

Choose Microsoft 365 and Office and Technical then click Confirm

You will see an option to connect with a live chat agent, please click on it

Confirm your email and wait a bit for a session with the support agent. You should be able to have this on your screen.

Thank you. I have tried exactly that. I entered “live chat” in the Microsoft support form, but it still says that there are no results for the problem and only gives me the option to get community help.

I have tried several different descriptions, including “live chat”, “missing emails”, “missing emails from Outlook”, and “old emails missing”, but I get the same result every time.

I am therefore unable to reach the Outlook.com support team through the method you have provided.

Could you please provide me with a direct link to the Outlook.com live chat, or another way to contact an Outlook.com support agent who can investigate my mailbox?

Thank you so much for the quick response.

Just to clarify, are you using a personal Microsoft account ending in @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, or @live.com, or a work or school account provided by an organization?

If it is a work or school account, the Outlook.com support route would not apply. You would need to contact your organization’s Microsoft 365 administrator or IT department, as they can investigate the mailbox and open a support request with Microsoft if necessary.
