Hi,

We are currently thinking about Teams Premium, specifically E2EE, and the are a few things that I would like to have further clarification:

  1. Is it possible to book a meeting and choose a specific template from the mobile app?
  2. E2EE is not applicable when using Teams via the web browser. This applies even for individuals with licenses or just for guests with no license.
  3. It is possible to use E2EE simply by sending the link via SMS without adding the email address. The guest just needs to download the Teams app and choose to continue without logging in.

Additionally, could someone please provide further clarification on what it means that "Teams Premium does not support direct guest join with end-to-end encryption"?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Geraldine

    Hi Rita,

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain. I appreciate it.

I've been testing in my test environment. I created the meeting using the template and sent the meeting link to myself as a guest via SMS. When I clicked on the link as a guest, it prompted me to install the Teams app if it wasn't already on my phone. I allowed microphone and video permissions, just as you explained. However, I didn't need to enable E2EE. Or did I miss something?

Then, I clicked on the 'Join meeting' button and entered something in the name field so that the join button became available. The issue here is that I couldn't see the guest's video. In this case, is my guest considered a direct guest?

In order to use E2EE, do I need to add the guest's email when booking a meeting? Is this a requirement?

We would like to use E2EE by simply sending a meeting link via SMS without adding the guest's email. Is that feasible?

    Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Geraldine

    Hello Sundberg G,

I will answer your questions to the best of my ability.

    1. You asked if it is possible to book a meeting in Teams and also choose a specific template from the mobile app. Yes, it is possible to book a meeting and choose a specific template from the Teams mobile app. Take the following steps to do that:
    2. Open your Teams calendar.
    3. Select the drop-down menu next to New meeting.
    4. Choose Virtual appointment or another available template. The virtual appointment Teams scheduling form will appear, and you can fill it out as needed. Read this article for a better understanding: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/office/use-a-teams-meeting-template-to-create-a-virtual-appointment-6a9e8cbb-c0ed-4598-851e-3b1750a4a747
    5. On your second question. You wanted to confirm something that you already know. You want to confirm if E2EE is not applicable when using Teams via the web browser. You are right. End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is not currently supported when using Teams on the web.

This applies to all users, regardless of whether they have licenses or are guests. E2EE is available for one-to-one Teams calls and requires both parties to be using the latest version of the Teams desktop client for Windows or Mac, or on a mobile device with the latest update for iOS and Android. Web, Virtual Desktop (VDI), and Cloud Video Interoperability (CVI) devices are not supported for E2EE meetings, and participants attempting to join from these platforms will be blocked

Read these articles for a clearer understanding: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/use-end-to-end-encryption-for-teams-meetings-a8326d15-d187-49c4-ac99-14c17dbd617c

    1. On your third question, it is possible to use end-to-end encryption (E2EE) with Microsoft Teams by sending a meeting link via SMS. The recipient can download the Teams app and join the meeting without signing in. However, for E2EE to work during a call, both parties need to have it enabled in their Teams settings.
    2. To clarify what "Teams Premium does not support direct guest join with end-to-end encryption" means. The term “Teams Premium does not support direct guest join with end-to-end encryption” refers to the fact that guests cannot join an E2EE meeting by simply clicking on a meeting link. E2EE meetings have specific requirements for joining, and direct guest join via a link does not meet these security protocols.

I hope I am able to answer all your questions.

    Kind Regards, Rita.
