As soon as I create a team in Teams with external members (members outside my organisation) I cannot add them as members, only guests. They cannot either access my team. As soon as I add them and they try to enter they are asked to log in with an email registered at my organisation. They of course hasnt got this since they are external. How come is this happening? How shall I solve this?

The only thing I basically done is to:

  1. created a team
  2. added members (guests)

If you don't have permission to edit the user status, you would need to contact the admin to do the process.

They could also try running the guest access test in the admin center, or remove the guest and then re-add them.

For information on setting up guest access, you may see the link:

    Hi, Per,

My name is Didi. I'm happy to help you today.

By design, if we add external members in Teams, the only option is to add them as guests. However, the user type can be changed in the Azure portal through the following steps:

    1. Sign in to https://portal.azure.com/ > Manage Azure Active Directory
    2. Click 'Users' and select the user you want to change the user type.
    3. Click Edit. Under 'User type' select Member from the dropdown then click Save

The change may not take effect immediately.

I wonder what happens when they join by clicking the invitation email from Teams. Are they able to access Teams at least?

Let me know if you have clarifications.

    Best regards,
