Hi I have recently come to some issues with my keyboard. I have a Swedish keyboard layout, and keyboard combinations with ctrl + alt + any key does not work.

The keyboard is set on the correct language and layout (Swedish). Each individual key does work, for example can I ctrl +leftclick on files in a directory to mark them.

I can also use the alt + tab combination to switch between applications.

However if i press ctrl + alt + any key for example ctrl + alt + del nothing happens or ctrl + alt + any number for special characters nothing happens.

The keyboard is responsive on each individual key, but any combination with ctrl alt result in nothing.

What could be the issue?

    Hi,

It sounds like you’re having trouble with the Ctrl + Alt key combinations on your Swedish keyboard layout. Since other key combinations such as Ctrl + left-click and Alt + Tab are working, it suggests that the keyboard hardware itself is functioning, but there might be some software or configuration issue causing this specific problem.

Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

    1. Check if Sticky Keys or other accessibility features are enabled:
      • Sometimes Sticky Keys or other accessibility features can interfere with key combinations. You can disable this by:
        • Going to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard.
        • Make sure Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, or any other related settings are turned off.
    2. Test the combination with a different application:
      • Sometimes specific applications can override key combinations. Try using Ctrl + Alt with different applications (such as Word, Notepad, or File Explorer) to see if it works there.
    3. Check for conflicting keybindings or third-party software:
      • Some third-party software, especially utilities like screen recorders, clipboard managers, or other keyboard-related programs, can override or block key combinations. Try disabling or uninstalling such software and see if the problem persists.
    4. Reinstall or update your keyboard driver:
      • There could be an issue with the keyboard driver. To update or reinstall it:
        • Go to Device Manager.
        • Expand the Keyboards section, right-click on your keyboard, and select Update Driver or Uninstall (it will reinstall automatically after restarting your PC).
    5. Try using the AltGr key instead of Ctrl + Alt:
      • On some keyboard layouts (especially non-US layouts), Ctrl + Alt can be replaced with the AltGr key. On a Swedish keyboard, this key is usually located to the right of the spacebar. Try using AltGr + [key] for special characters.
    6. Check for system updates:
      • Ensure that Windows is up to date by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and checking for any updates. Occasionally, bugs related to input devices are resolved in system updates.
    7. Repair corrupted Windows files:
      • You can try repairing your Windows files. To do this please follow these steps:
        1. Click Start and type "cmd'. Open Command Prompt as Admin.
    8. Enter the following lines one at a time. Note any messages given, especially ones which state that something could not be updated or repaired.

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    sfc /scannow

    1. Reboot
    2. Create a new user profile:
      • Occasionally, corrupt user profiles can lead to issues with keybindings. So if none of the above solutions work, you can create a new user profile and test if Ctrl + Alt combinations work there.
I hope one of my steps have solved your problem, otherwise just reply and we will try to give you further assistance!
