Hi

I have a htpc and stream from ex netflix HBO viaplay etc. I use the digital out on mainboard realtek alc887 to a DD, DTS reciever and it have worked flawless.  Even DD+ movies gets tranformed to a 5.1 signal and trensfered with coax cable.

Now with 1909 update, there is only 2channel out from edge, firefox etc. Something has changed.

A good choise to test is with Dolbydigital site, where you can either play "the Leaf" in the browser or download the same mp4 file.

I have reinstalled realtek and I have 5.1 output from the mediaplayer in windows, VLC  and any other player. But in a browser I only get 2channel audio.

Do you still have a System Restore Point to go back before Edge was updated? This is one way to get the old Edge back then you can block the Update to Chromium, or do the simple easy steps here to have both side-by-side here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/144061-enab...

(Anytime there's a Shawn Brink tutorial it's safe and he'll walk you through if needed)

Hi Fredrik. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator here to help you.

    1. If this was caused by a Version Update then for 10 days you can roll it back in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool which is explained more here:

    https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta....

If that doesn't work you can also Go Back in Repair Mode as shown here:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc...

    1. Try also Chrome to see if the same happens.
    2. Update the sound driver from the PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model, if it is newer than the one presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. While there compare to make sure you also have the latest BIOS, Chipset, Display, Network and all other drivers. The Display driver also has an audio component so try all drivers including from the chip maker's auto-updater.
    3. Make sure you've fully Updated, because Realtek drivers had a block on this in the original 1909 release that was subsequently released explained here:

    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft...

    1. Reinstall the Realtek Audio Manager:

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/download-reinsta...

    https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-get-the-Realtek-...

    https://www.solvemix.com/index.php/en/year-2020...

    1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to choose if I resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Hi Greg

    Tnx for really fast reply.

    1. My bad, it wasnt 1909, it was a update and some restarts and all of sudden Edge had a new Icon. So it was another kind of update. But nothing visible in the Recovery history.
    2. Same in Chrome, and since last update in chrome there is no way to put in extra flags.  Opera etc is the same.
    3. Everything updated as it can be.
    4. Yes, thats true, The block was regarding bluetooth and my ALC887-d doesnt have that. The newest driver is since 2017.
    5. Audio manager have been uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times.
    6. I updated to 1909 yesturday bot no differense

5.1 output through either analog 8channel or digital out to amplifier works great with Windows Mediaplayer, VLC player, Netflix app.

But when trying to playback audio with a browser everyting get int 2 channel.

    ex https://www.dolby.com/us/en/guide/dolby-atmos-trailers.html

These files only gets 2 channel in browser (both analog out and digital) but if you download them to the media player it worksa flawless with 5.1 to amp both analog or digital out.

So I can playback 5.1 or 7.1 through computer to amplifier, just not through a browser.

I have noticed that it is like browsers doesnt take exclusive control over the audio device.  If I in settings for soundcard/advanced unbox the "take control over device"  Then Mediaplayer, VLC Neflix etc also only output 2 channel. Just as the browsers.

Microsoft Edge got support for DDplus 2015. But I just wanna make sure.:

So please confirm that you have 5.1 or more output when playing the Dolby digital movies from a browser. It would be great.

If it works for someone I need to reinstall win10 i guess beacuse there is something wrong in the registry.

    Best Regards

    Fredrik

I tested on my other computer with realtec and it has still the old edge browser. It works great, surround is performing in the old edge but not in the new.

Listening with a couple of headphones on the analog surroundjacket on the back. Alla  other browsers and the new Edge Chromium is silent.

    So to test this

Make sure you have an regular computer with built in soundcard an 3 or more analog outputs? (no fancy flippable thing that can be carried around)

An htpc or a gaming computer with a motherboard size if a pizza.

If you have 2 desktop speakers let them play. Now go to setup and change to 5.1 speaker setup and plug in headphones in the rearspeaker output.

Play the testtones in the speakersetup to make sure you nailed it and have surround signal in the headphones.

    https://www.dolby.com/us/en/guide/dolby-atmos-trailers.html

Now play the testfile from dolby digital that been saved to the desktop. (Press the leaf button, then click the 3dots i right low corner to save) You should have amazing surround.

Now play direectly in any browser you like including the new edge. No surround at all.

If you have the old edge you will still have surround output.

Now this is strange isnt it!!
