Hello Microsoft Support Team,

We are representing an official educational institution (school) in Kazakhstan, and we are in the process of setting up our Microsoft 365 Education tenant to purchase and deploy Minecraft Education for our students.

We have successfully registered our organization, but we need to complete the academic verification. However, we are concerned about making changes or modifying the DNS settings of our main school domain right now, as it is an official operational school domain and we want to avoid any disruption to existing school services.

Could you please advise if there are alternative ways to verify our educational status (for example, by reviewing official school registration documents, state licenses, or certificates) without altering our primary domain settings?

Microsoft’s documented academic verification process requires the school to provide its institutional domain through the academic eligibility verification wizard. In most cases, eligibility is determined automatically. If more information is required, Microsoft may initiate a manual review and send the institution a questionnaire. This review can take up to 10 business days.

Microsoft does not currently document a self-service option that allows a school to bypass the domain step and verify its status solely by uploading registration certificates or licenses. Additional information may be requested during a manual review, but this is determined by Microsoft’s verification process.

Verifying the domain does not require you to move the school’s email or website to Microsoft 365. Domain ownership is normally verified by adding a Microsoft-provided TXT record, such as MS=msXXXXXXXX. Microsoft states that this record is used only to verify domain ownership, does not affect other services, and can be removed after verification. You can leave the existing MX, website, and other operational DNS records unchanged.

Therefore, the supported approach is to continue the academic verification process using the school’s official domain and add only the TXT verification record requested by Microsoft.

If your organization cannot add even a temporary TXT record, please open a support request through Microsoft 365 admin center > Help & Support. The verification team can confirm whether additional documentation or a manual review is available for your specific tenant.
