Hello,

I have a personal Microsoft account.

I am experiencing a synchronization issue between OneNote and OneDrive.

Environment:

  • iPhone
  • iOS 26.3
  • OneNote 16.112.2

Problem:

  • OneNote for iOS still displays notebooks that have already been deleted.
  • Deleting notebooks from the iOS app does nothing or shows “Something went wrong”.
  • In “Recent files”, deleted notebooks display the date January 1, 1970.
  • OneDrive shows only the existing notebook.
  • The notebook opens and syncs correctly when launched from the OneDrive app.
  • OneNote Web does not list my notebooks.
  • Clicking “Show all notebooks” redirects me to OneDrive.
  • Opening a notebook from OneDrive in the browser results in “You don’t have permission to access this site.”

Already tried:

  • Reinstalled OneNote.
  • Restarted the iPhone.
  • Signed out and signed in again.
  • Verified that OneDrive synchronization works.
  • Deleted notebooks from OneDrive.

The issue persists.

Could you please check whether my OneNote notebook metadata or notebook index associated with my Microsoft account is corrupted?

Thank you.

    Hi, Андрей Макаренко

This looks like a stale notebook reference linked to the Microsoft account, not damage to the notebook itself. The January 1, 1970 date and the fact that the valid notebook opens from OneDrive suggest that OneNote is loading outdated entries from its cached or online Recent list.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Confirm that the working notebook is fully synchronized, since the next step removes local offline copies.

On the iPhone, open Settings > Apps > OneNote > Reset OneNote. Enable Delete All Notebooks and Delete Login Credentials, then force-close OneNote, reopen it, and sign in again. This reset does not delete notebooks stored in OneDrive, but any unsynchronized local changes can be lost.

If available, open OneNote on a Windows or Mac computer and use Close This Notebook for every deleted notebook. Deleting a notebook from OneDrive does not always remove its entry from OneNote’s notebook list.

If the entries return or the browser permission error remains, forum moderators cannot inspect or repair account metadata. Contact Microsoft Support, select Microsoft 365 and Office > Technical support, and provide the screenshots, affected notebook names, OneNote version, and Microsoft account email so the issue can be checked at the account level.
