Hello!
I've encountered a problem on my new ASUS TUF Gaming A18 laptop. The system spontaneously reboots or the screen goes dark (and then comes back on) exactly when launching games or heavy 3D applications.
Symptoms:
When entering a game, the screen goes dark, then reboots.
Important detail: The keyboard backlight remains on even after the screen goes dark.
Paradox: If the game has successfully loaded and entered gameplay, the laptop runs perfectly—at maximum settings, without overheating or throttling. The FurMark stress test passes without errors (temperatures are normal). The problem occurs specifically during 3D mode initialization (transition from 2D to 3D).
Event Viewer data:
Critical error: Kernel-Power, Event ID 41, Task Category (63).
Parameters: BugcheckCode 278 (corresponding to 0x116 - VIDEO_TDR_ERROR).
Previously, the BugcheckCode was 0; now it's stable at 278.
What's already been done:
BIOS updated to the latest version from the official ASUS website.
All drivers (NVIDIA and AMD/Intel) are up to date. I tried a clean install via DDU in safe mode. Also reinstall Windows.
Power settings set to "Maximum Performance."
No overheating: CPU and GPU temperatures under load are within normal limits. System Configuration:
Laptop: ASUS TUF Gaming A18 (FA808UM-S8030)
OS: Windows 11 (25H2)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA RTX 5060 Laptop GPU
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 260
Could you please tell me if Bugcheck 278 in this scenario indicates a hardware defect in the graphics card's power phases during a sudden load surge (P-state transition), or if this is a known software issue with a conflict between the integrated and discrete graphics drivers?
I would appreciate any technical advice.UPD: The problem was with the new Nvidia 591.86 driver, which was resolved by temporarily installing the driver 573.24 from the official Asus website.
