Unfortunately, You will not be able to redeem this if you are in a different region from where the gift was bought. Your friend can check if the purchase is allowed for refund, but many digital stuff cannot be refunded. Some items are final and non refundable like digital apps, games, third party subscriptions billed through Microsoft, gift cards, services already used, and items marked final sale or non returnable.
