Lost Excel files from OneDrive

Details:

Hello,

Two important Excel files disappeared from my OneDrive around October 21–22, 2025. They contained my yearly work records. I didn’t delete them manually — they just vanished.

Please check if they can be recovered from backup or version history. I’m using OneDrive connected to my Microsoft 365 account on iPhone and Windows laptop.

I do apologize for the problem you have met, I understand that your Excel files has been lost on OneDrive, which very important to you.

On this case, here are some troubleshoots can help you find your files on your end:

Search & Recycle bin
- On your Windows laptop, click the OneDrive cloud icon ➜ View Online ➜ use search for part of the Excel names; then open Recycle bin and Second‑stage recycle bin if shown.
- How: OneDrive web ➜ left pane Recycle bin ➜ select file(s) ➜ Restore. In the OneDrive mobile app: Me ➜ Recycle Bin ➜ select ➜ Restore.
Version History
- If you find the files but content looks off, open Version history and restore a previous version.
- How: OneDrive web ➜ select file ➜ Version history ➜ choose a prior version ➜ Restore. (Enabled by default in OneDrive/SharePoint.)
Restore your OneDrive (only if step 1–2 fail or many items are missing)
- Run Restore your OneDrive to a date just before the disappearance.
- How (Windows or web): OneDrive web ➜ Settings (gear) ➜ Restore your OneDrive ➜ pick a date (or Custom date and time) ➜ preview changes ➜ Restore. The same option is shown in end‑user guides.

None of these actions will permanently delete anything new—you can undo or re‑restore again if needed.

I don't have these files in my recycle bin, what can I do to restore them if they are not there?Tell me another way, if it exists. These files are very important to me, I worked on them for a whole year.

Thanks for updating regarding your situation.

As you have said that you do not see your files on Recycle Bin. However, I would like to confirm if you have restored your Recycle Bin, also resorted Version History and OneDrive?

The above steps help you restore all files, and you could locate your file if it exists. All the deleted files still stay in the Recycle Bin and OneDrive about 30 days. You need to check and restore every possible way before it disappears.

I did everything as you said.they are not there.5-6 files disappeared, I didn’t delete them, I’ve been managing them for 7 years now.

Here are some additional steps with another situation that might happen to your files on OneDrive, so you could check it out: (even with the account, folders, or activities history)

Sync/move events: Drag‑and‑drop across folders, renames, or app “Save As” to a different library. You’ll see them via activity/details.

Known Folder Move locations changes: Desktop/Documents redirected into OneDrive alter the path you expect.

Policy/licensing changes: In rare cases (license removal, account status changes), access paths can change; admins have tenant‑level controls to retain/recover.

For iPhone‑specific checks**: (“Recently Deleted” files)** That view covers local/iCloud locations; use the OneDrive app’s own Recycle Bin for cloud‑deleted items (covered by OneDrive documentation above).

Another option: Also open your Windows Recycle Bin in case the deletion occurred via the sync client; restoring there can also bring the cloud copy back.

None of this is there, I checked everything, five folders are missing, 7 years of work....A week ago, the website had a red sign that it was having technical problems, and that's when it all got lost.I will most likely no longer use Excel files.

Click on this page Contact - Microsoft Support, type "OneDrive" to search and click "Sign in to contact support" at the bottom of the page.

Sign in to available Microsoft account. Make sure you log in with your personal account.

Under Products and Services, select "Microsoft 365 and Office".

Under Categories, select "Technical Support" and click Confirm.

Click on "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".
