Dear @Joris Bosch,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
We apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter when using our services/ products. Based on your description, kindly try these following steps:
System file health
- Navigate to Command Prompt (Run as Administrator) > type:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
- Restart after complete.
Put Surface drivers/firmware back to the official OEM baseline
- Download and install the latest Surface Laptop 5 – Drivers & Firmware (MSI) for Windows 11 (file name currently shown as
SurfaceLaptop5_Win11_22631_25.104.40963.0.msi). Run it offline (disconnect Wi‑Fi while installing) so Windows Update doesn’t race you with another driver. After install, reboot and reconnect. Microsoft Download Center: Surface Laptop 5 - If you prefer using Windows Update, also check Optional updates under Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates and install any Intel Corporation - Display / Extension and Surface - Firmware components. Updates earlier this year explicitly reduced Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR) events (the class of crashes that often shows
igdkmdn64/igdkmdn64.sys).
