Why can some collegues set their file settings in "Open in desktop app" en others can't and only can choose for On line and Teams

Since last week i start to use the New Teams.

Important for this step was the possibility to open my files in the Desktop app by default. This is new in the new Teams.

I recommended my collegues to migrate to new Teams. To my surprise, they don't have the setting "desktop app" in the open file settings.

Can someone explain why these settings are different?

So, If i unsterstand correctly, within one tenant there can be different stages of updates. And within a tenant, the time between the first update of a collegue and the last update can cause a different versionnumber. This explains the different version numbers.

    Thanx for your answers.

    Hello Ralph W,

Multiple versions of Microsoft Teams can be considered the “latest version” at the same time. This can happen when Microsoft is rolling out updates to customers in stages. The initial build version may be incremented during the rollout process to a new build version number. In some cases, when the rollout reaches all customers in the cloud, the build version number may not be the same as the one used when the rollout to customers started. This is why you may see multiple build versions being considered the “latest version” simultaneously. I hope this helps!

    Kind regards, Segunfunmi.

Strange thing is that my collegue and i have the same settings. We have both Office current channel updates and Teams follows this setting.
We can both use the New Teams.
The Team version of my Collegue is 23202.1509.2295.2283 and a versioncomment is added: "You have the latest version"

My Team version is 23217.805.2326.4563 and also has the comment: "You have the latest version".

Why are there multiple latest versions?

    Hello Ralph W,

I’m Segunfunmi, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. Thanks for posting the query here in this forum.

There could be a few reasons why your colleagues don’t have the same settings as you do. One possibility is that they may not have the latest version of Microsoft Teams installed on their devices. You can ask them to check for updates and install the newest version of the app.

Another possibility is that your organization’s admin may have set different app permission policies for other users or groups of users. These policies control which apps are available to users and what they can do with them. You can ask your organization’s admin to check if any app permission policies could affect your colleagues’ ability to see the “desktop app” setting.

It’s also possible that your colleagues may have different types of user accounts, such as guest or external access accounts, which could affect their ability to use certain features in Teams. You can ask them to check their account type and see if that could be the reason for the difference in settings.

I hope this information helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Kind regards, Segunfunmi.
