Problem with verifying a new alias in microsoft account; verification link does not work

I am trying to add an alias to my microsoft account.
I get to the point that a verification email is sent to the new email however when I click on the link in the email to complete the verification I get an error message:
Het e-mailadres is niet bevestigd;
Het e-mailadres kan niet worden bevestigd omdat mogelijk het verkeerde Microsoft-account is ingevoerd. Probeer je aan te melden met een ander Microsoft-account.
