Title: Microsoft 365 tenant recovery – no Global Administrator access

Hello,

I am the Managing Director of [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed] in Norway, and we have lost administrative access to our existing Microsoft 365 tenant.

Our tenant information is:

Tenant: bukkenbrusebarnehage.onmicrosoft.com

Tenant ID: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]

Custom domain: bukkenbruse.org

Active email account: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]@bukkenbruse.org

I have access to our active email account, but this account does not have administrator permissions in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

I have reviewed our historical Microsoft correspondence. The last known administrator account was:

[Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]@bukkenbrusebarnehage.onmicrosoft.com

This account was associated with a former person responsible for the organization who is no longer affiliated with us and whom we no longer have contact with. Microsoft no longer appears to recognize this username when we try to sign in.

We purchase our Microsoft 365 subscription directly from Microsoft and have Microsoft invoices issued to [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed].

Our domain and DNS are managed by [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]. [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed] has confirmed the Tenant ID above and has also confirmed that they can assist us with DNS verification if Microsoft requires this to verify ownership of bukkenbruse.org.

We therefore appear to have an active Microsoft 365 tenant with no accessible Global Administrator.

I have tried contacting Microsoft by phone, but the automated phone system repeatedly disconnects the call when I reach the stage where I need to explain the issue. I also cannot create a normal support request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center because our accessible account does not have administrator permissions.

We need to recover administrative ownership of this Microsoft 365 tenant!

Could a Microsoft moderator please assist with escalating this to the Data Protection / Tenant Recovery team for tenant ownership verification and Global Administrator restoration?

I can provide proof of domain/DNS control, Microsoft invoices, company registration information and previous Microsoft correspondence as required.

Thank you.

(This is a Norwegian forum, but I noticed that you originally posted your question in English, so please allow me to reply in English to make the discussion easier and smoother for us. Also, since my test environment uses the English interface, the screenshots will appear in English. Thank you for your understanding!)

    Hi @Bukken Bruse barnehage,

I understand your situation. Just to gently clarify before going any further, this forum is separate from Microsoft Support. Forum users, moderators, and Microsoft external staff cannot access user accounts, verify tenant ownership, or directly escalate cases to the Data Protection team. Because of that, any tenant recovery request must ultimately be handled through Microsoft's official support channels.

If you've been unable to reach support successfully by phone and cannot create a support request from the affected tenant because no administrator account is available, one workaround that has helped other users in similar situations is to create a new Microsoft 365 trial tenant: Microsoft 365 Pricing for Business: Plans & Features

    User's image User's image

Once the new tenant is created, you’ll be able to sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center and submit a support ticket from there. In your request, clearly explain that you need help with regaining access to an administrator account in your original tenant and ask to be routed to the Data Protection team. This approach typically ensures that the ticket is properly assigned and handled by a real support engineer rather than remaining stuck in automated flows or disconnected mid-process.

If Microsoft's ownership validation is successful, the responsible team may be able to assist with restoring Global Administrator access or providing the next steps required to regain control of the tenant.

Note: Please remember to cancel the trial subscription once your issue is resolved to avoid any unintended charges

I hope you're able to give this approach a try and that it helps you successfully create a support ticket and reach the appropriate team to resolve this issue. Thank you for taking the time.
