    Hi Helge,

Thanks for reaching out. I know update errors like 0x800f0983 can be frustrating, and they usually happen because of corrupted system files or incomplete update data. Let’s go through a few steps that often fix this.

First, try the simplest approach: restart your PC and retry the update. Sometimes toggling the Pause updates option off and on can refresh the update process and clear temporary conflicts.

Second, run the Windows Update Troubleshooter under Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters. It can automatically resolve common problems.

Third, repair system files by opening Command Prompt as admin and running:
    sfc /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If that doesn’t work, reset the update components by stopping update services and renaming the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folders, then restart the services.

If the error persists, try Repair Reinstall under Settings → System → Recovery. This reinstalls Windows without removing your files or apps.

Lastly, if that option isn’t available, do an in-place upgrade using the official Windows ISO. Mount it, run setup.exe, and choose “Keep personal files and apps.”

I hope you find this information helpful. Please let me know if you have any further questions If the answer is helpful, please click "Accept Answer".

    Regards,

    Carlo
