Dear Microsoft OneDrive Support Team,

I am writing to request urgent assistance with the recovery of a critical business folder that was lost during a OneDrive Known Folder Move (KFM) migration on my Personal OneDrive account. The lost data is essential to my professional work and the loss appears to have been caused by a malfunction during the KFM migration process initiated by the OneDrive client.

────────────────────────────────────────

ACCOUNT INFORMATION

────────────────────────────────────────

  • Microsoft Account Email: ******@gmail.com
  • OneDrive Customer ID (CID): 8646B16F94951E41
  • OneDrive Account Type: Personal
  • Lost Folder Name: "KFQ 업무" (Korean for "KFQ Work")
  • Lost Folder OneDrive ResID: 8646B16F94951E41!1019
  • Original Local Path: C:\Users\user\Desktop\KFQ 업무
  • Operating System: Windows 11 Pro (Build 26200)

────────────────────────────────────────

INCIDENT TIMELINE (KST, UTC+9)

────────────────────────────────────────

  1. 2026-04-17, 09:00 — 17:00 I worked extensively on files inside C:\Users\user\Desktop\KFQ 업무 throughout the day. At this time, OneDrive was NOT signed in on this PC, and the folder existed only locally on the Desktop.
  2. 2026-04-17, evening I needed to access another file stored in my OneDrive, so I signed in to OneDrive Personal (******@gmail.com) for the first time on this PC.
  3. 2026-04-18, 02:30 (KST) Based on the registry value "KFMOnboardingEnabledStartTime" (Unix timestamp 1776487833), Known Folder Move (KFM) was automatically activated at this exact moment. It appears the "Back up your folders" option was enabled by default during the OneDrive setup wizard, which I did not consciously select.
  4. 2026-04-18, 02:30 — 03:09 The KFM migration attempted to move my local Desktop contents (including the "KFQ 업무" folder with 244+ files) into C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Desktop. According to my local OneDrive database (SafeDelete.db), 244 files from the "KFQ 업무" folder were processed by the OneDrive SafeDelete mechanism during this window — apparently due to a synchronization conflict during the migration.
  5. 2026-04-18, early morning I shut down the computer.
  6. 2026-04-18, 11:20 When I logged in again, I discovered that:
    • The folder "KFQ 업무" was no longer present anywhere on the PC
    • The local folder C:\Users\user\Desktop itself had been completely deleted (no junction/symlink created either, indicating the KFM migration terminated abnormally)
    • Other Known Folders (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos) were NOT migrated — only Desktop was affected, and it was destroyed in the process

TECHNICAL EVIDENCE

────────────────────────────────────────

After thorough forensic investigation of the local system, I confirmed the following:

  1. The folder "KFQ 업무" was assigned a OneDrive cloud ID (8646B16F94951E41!1019), confirming it was registered with OneDrive's sync engine.
  2. The local OneDrive SafeDelete.db contains 244 file references that match the contents of the "KFQ 업무" folder, including filenames such as:
    • "FSMS Audit Plan cobranded.docx"
    • "FSMS Finding Detail Report (Gangneung).docx"
    • "2024-277422 Audit Programme SAIG.docx"
    • "2024-277422 Basic Certification Information (CO BRANDED).docx"
    • Multiple files for Gangneung / Bupyeong / Gimcheon / Pyeongtaek / Daejeon Factory audits
    • Numerous on-site inspection photos (20250519_*.jpg)
    • "2023 FB Seminar (Food Safety Culture).pptx"
  3. The Windows local Recycle Bin is completely empty — the files did not pass through it.
  4. The OneDrive web interface (onedrive.live.com) shows no "KFQ 업무" folder either in the file tree, in the search results, or in the user-visible Recycle Bin.
  5. No Volume Shadow Copies, System Restore Points, or File History backups exist on this system.

────────────────────────────────────────

BUSINESS IMPACT

────────────────────────────────────────

The lost folder contains critical business documentation related to FSSC 22000 / ISO 22000 food safety certification audits, including audit plans, finding detail reports, certification programs, and on-site inspection photographs for multiple client manufacturing facilities. These materials are time-sensitive professional work products that cannot be easily recreated, and several active audit projects are now at risk of significant delay.

────────────────────────────────────────

RECOVERY REQUEST

────────────────────────────────────────

Given that:

  • The folder was registered with the OneDrive cloud (cloud ID confirmed)
  • 244 files from this folder were processed by OneDrive's SafeDelete mechanism
  • The data loss occurred during a KFM migration initiated by the OneDrive client itself
  • The user-visible Recycle Bin does not show these items

I respectfully request that your team:

  1. Search Microsoft's backend OneDrive storage for any retained copies of folder ResID 8646B16F94951E41!1019 and its contents (the "KFQ 업무" folder).
  2. Restore items processed by SafeDelete during the timeframe 2026-04-18 02:30 — 03:30 KST (UTC 17:30 — 18:30 on 2026-04-17), if any second-stage retention exists at the service tier.
  3. If the standard retention has expired or the data was permanently purged, please escalate this case for backend recovery, as this data loss was caused by a malfunction in the OneDrive KFM migration workflow and not by an intentional user action.

I am fully willing to provide any additional information, log files, or device verification needed to support the recovery effort. I would be very grateful for a prompt response, as this matter is time-critical.

Thank you very much for your attention and assistance.

Best regards,

TaeGyu Um
