Azure Migrate 사용시, 원본 VM의 OS 커널 변경건

AWS ubuntu ec2에서 Azure Migrate를 사용해서 이관하려고 한다.

그러나 ec2의 커널 버전은 *** -aws로 Migrate에서 모두 지원되지 않는 커널이다. 아래 URL을 통해서 확인이 가능하다.

AWS의 EC2에서 migrate 서비스를 사용해서 azure vm으로 이관하려면, 항상 OS 커널을 *** -generic으로 변경해야만 하는가?

그러나 현실적으로 커널을 변경하는 부분은 운영 환경에서 문제가 있어, 현재 테스트 단계에서는 커널 변경없는 OS 바꿔서 PoC 중입니다.

여전히 migrate 서비스 중에 이해할 수 없는 현상이 있어서, 해당 게시판에 새로운 글로 재문의드렸습니다. 답변 부탁드립니다.

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Q&A.

When migrating an Ubuntu VM from AWS EC2 to Azure using Azure Migrate, the AWS‑optimized kernel (*-aws) is NOT supported.

Azure Migrate (and the Mobility Service used for replication) requires a supported Linux distribution running a stock / generic kernel. Cloud‑specific kernels such as linux-aws are explicitly unsupported.

Because of this:

Azure Migrate will not automatically change or replace the kernel.

The source VM must be switched to a supported generic kernel before migration.

On Linux distributions, only the stock kernels that are part of the distribution minor version release/update are supported.This excludes AWS‑optimized kernels (*-aws), which are not stock Ubuntu kernels.

Azure Migrate Support Matrix – Linux OS requirement: Azure Migrate supports Linux only when the OS and kernel are supported:

AWS‑specific kernels are not listed as supported.

2. Microsoft‑endorsed Linux kernels for Azure VMs:

Azure supports Linux distributions only with endorsed kernels, suitable for Hyper‑V and Azure Linux Agent. AWS‑optimized kernels are cloud‑specific and not endorsed for Azure.

As a resolution Before migration, the source Ubuntu EC2 VM must:

Install and boot into a generic Ubuntu kernel (*-generic)
Verify kernel using uname -r (should NOT end with -aws)
Then proceed with Azure Migrate replication

Azure Migrate will not perform this change automatically.
