Hello,
Here are some ideas and thoughts that I would like to share and discuss with you.
How to Fix It
Method 1: Manually re-pin the folders
1. Open File Explorer
2. Navigate to `C:\Users\<YourUsername>\`
3. Right-click Desktop, Documents, or Pictures → Pin to Quick Access
If this doesn’t work or they disappear again, try Method 2 below.
Method 2: Reset Quick Access cache
1. Close all File Explorer windows
2. Press `Win + R` → type:
shell
%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
3. Delete all files inside that folder (these are recent/pinned item cache files)
4. Reopen File Explorer and try pinning folders again
This will reset your Quick Access — your recent files and pinned folders will be cleared.
Method 3: Check Group Policy (for Business/Enterprise systems)
If you're using Windows Pro/Enterprise, Group Policy may be preventing Quick Access changes.
1. Press `Win + R`, type `gpedit.msc`, and hit Enter
2. Go to:
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer
3. Make sure “Do not allow pinning items in Quick Access” is set to “Not configured” or “Disabled”
Note:
Microsoft is actively changing the way Quick Access and navigation pane work in newer builds. These inconsistencies are likely to be patched in future cumulative updates for Windows 11.
Regards,
Allison
