Hello Cogenlab,
This usually happens because the laptop originally came with Windows Home and the Home OEM key is stored in the device firmware. After reinstalling Windows, Setup detects that key and automatically installs or activates Windows Home.
Your Windows Pro upgrade may still be available, so you should not need to purchase it again.
If you purchased the Pro upgrade through the Microsoft Store, first sign in to Windows with the same Microsoft account that was used to purchase the upgrade. Then go to:
Settings > System > Activation
Make sure Windows Home is activated, then select Troubleshoot if that option is available. If Microsoft detects the Windows Pro digital license for this device, you may be given the option to upgrade the installation back to Windows Pro.
You can also check the Microsoft account's order history to confirm that the Windows Pro upgrade appears there.
If instead you purchased Windows Pro using a 25-character product key, go to:
Settings > System > Activation > Change product key
and enter the Pro key that you originally purchased.
If it still remains on Windows Home, please tell us:
Whether you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11
Whether the Pro upgrade was purchased from Microsoft Store or using a product key
What is shown under Settings > Activation, including any activation error code
Please do not post your product key or other account information here.
Once you have checked the details above, please share your findings with us, including any activation status or error messages you encounter. This will help us better understand the issue and guide you through the next steps to restore your Windows Pro activation.
We look forward to your update and will be happy to assist you further.
Thanks.
