Salve a tutti. Ho un pc Windows 10 con chiave di licenza Retail. Ho fatto un backup del disco di sistema e l'ho usato per ripristinare il sistema su un secondo PC su cui esiste una chiave di licenza OEM. Il nuovo sistema risulta avere l'attivazione con la chiave retail del primo, nonostante nell'HW sia presente una chiave OEM. Non dovrebbe automaticamente invece attivarsi con la chiave OEM del secondo? O il backup prevale? Dovrei quindi cambiare la chiave di attivazione inserendo a mano la chiave OEM?

look, I'm not 100% sure I used Powershell to check the key and now I stored the PC away so I can't recheck. But for sure I used ShowKeyPlus after I changed manually the Key to the OEM one and it showed the key as active.
Clearly having to do a fresh install to use the OEM key is totally impractical since I want to use the second PC as a backup of the first in case it fails.
Anyway I'monitor the state of the activation in the near future.
So, you never ran the powershell code? If not, you need to run it.
The PowerShell code would specifically read from the motherboard to confirm if the OEM key is embedded in the motherboard. ShowKey Plus will show the key type and key, but it will not necessarily confirm if the key is embedded in the motherboard or manually entered.

I was sure that I run the code Powershell, but in fact (I just rechecked now) the command yields no response. The (presumed) OEM code was supplied to me by the vendor (this is a refurbished PC). I used that code manually to update the activation code, apparently without problems. ShowKeyPlus says that (I translate from italian) there is also an "OEM Windows 7 code marker embedded in BIOS".
That is because (I imagine) the PC was supplied by the manufacturer with Win 7 installed? In that case the Win 10 OEM key is not really embedded in the MB. Right?
Correct, this means the key is never in the hardware itself, it was manually entered, so it will NOT be picked up automatically. Only key embedded int he hardware/motherboard is picked up automatically. This is exactly why I wanted you to run that powershell command, because it checks the hardware, not just what type of key you have. I hope that makes sense.
Just to resume:
I have three identical HP desktops bought as refurbished PCs.
All are running Windows 10 Pro
Two of them have an activation key in the BIOS as checked with Powershell
However these keys are for Windows 7 and for Windows 8.1
The third one has no key in the BIOS,
All three were supplied with Windows 10 activated by an OEM key by the vendor, that key obviously not sitting in the BIOS.

Yes, I checked with Powershell as you suggest.
It's an OEM:DM key. I reactivated Windows using that key. Is that a correct procedure?

Normalmente non potresti inserire direttamente quella chiave. Dovresti invece fare un'installazione pulita, affinché la chiave venga applicata.
This can happen after restoring an image from another PC. The restored Windows installation may still carry the activation state or product key information from the original computer, so it may show as activated with the Retail key from the first PC.
Let's make sure the computer does have an OEM license onboard.
Launch Powershell (note, it is not Command Prompt, but Powershell), and run this code to see if you have an OEM license on the motherboard. Let me know if it returns a key.
