Hello,

I am using Microsoft Copilot with a personal Microsoft account. I have a very large conversation that is still visible in my conversation history, but whenever I try to open it, Copilot displays:

"We couldn't load the content. Please try refreshing."

 The issue occurs consistently.

 What I have already tried:

  • Refreshing the page
  • Signing out and signing back in
  • Restarting the Copilot desktop application
  • Using Copilot on the web
  • Using a different browser

Other conversations open normally. Only this specific conversation fails to load. The conversation is still listed in the history, so it appears that the metadata exists, but the content cannot be retrieved.

 My questions are:

  1. Is there a way to recover or restore a conversation that is visible but cannot be opened?
  2. Is there any diagnostic information I can provide to Microsoft support?
  3. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with a large Copilot conversation?
  4. Is there a method to export or retrieve the conversation data if it remains visible in history?

The conversation contains important research and documentation, so preserving access to the existing conversation is more important than creating a new one.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Please note that this is HU-HU forum, all threads should be posted in Hungarian, however, I will still use English for your case today.

    Hi Márton Sipos Szabó

Since the issue affects only one specific conversation while all other conversations open normally, this suggests the problem may be tied to that conversation's stored data rather than the Copilot app, browser, or account session itself. Similar reports have been seen where very large or long-running conversations become inaccessible even though they remain visible in history.

Unfortunately, public forum members do not have access to Copilot back-end systems and cannot restore or retrieve chat data directly.

To help Microsoft investigate, consider collecting:

    • The exact error message and timestamp
    • A screenshot of the conversation entry in history
    • Browser/app version
    • Whether the issue occurs on both web and desktop (which you've confirmed)
    • Browser Developer Tools (F12) console/network errors when opening the conversation

If the conversation contains important research, submit feedback through Copilot with diagnostic data attached and contact Microsoft Support. Because the conversation is still visible in history, the metadata appears to exist, but only Microsoft can determine whether the underlying conversation data can be recovered. Some users have also reported issues involving conversation history retrieval and exports, indicating there can be back-end data access problems rather than local device issues.

I would not delete the conversation or clear the account's chat history while the issue is being investigated, as that could remove potentially recoverable data.
