Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.
Your personal Microsoft account is still associated with a Microsoft Entra (work/school) organization that was created during the older Skype > Teams transition. Because of that, Teams can sometimes route you into the work/school sign-in flow and show “Personal accounts are not supported here.”
We'll troubleshoot this in two parts: Move the org/tenant link first, then clear local sign-in leftovers.
Phase 1: Check the organization link
- Open a Private/Incognito window and go to My Account > Organizations.
- Sign in with your personal email.
- If you see an organization listed, try Leave organization:
- If you can leave: great — move on to Phase 3.
- If you can’t leave because it’s your Home organization (or the option is blocked): go to Phase 2.
Phase 2: Remove the tenant (only if it’s your Home org / you’re an admin)
If that organization is “home” to your account and you have admin access, you may need to delete the tenant. (This is a permanent change, so make sure you’re selecting the correct directory.)
A) Clear any blocking subscriptions
- In the Microsoft 365 admin center, cancel Teams Free (or any trial/subscription) if it appears as a required action.
B) Delete the tenant
- Go to Microsoft Entra admin center > Microsoft Entra ID > Manage tenants > Delete tenant
- If the delete option is disabled, follow the listed Required actions until it becomes available.
Phase 3: Clean your PC so Teams stops targeting the org
- Disconnect work/school link (only if present): Windows Settings > Accounts > Access work or school > select the account (if listed) > Disconnect.
- Clear New Teams cache:
- Close Teams completely
- Open File Explorer and go to:
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams - Delete the contents of that folder (this is the documented cache location for New Teams).
- Restart Teams and sign in with your personal email.
Please let me know if this proves useful to you or if you would like further assistance.
I'm looking forward to your reply.
