Today, an xls file stored on OneDrive lost its version history starting from 15.07.2025. How can I restore it? The file on my computer reverted to the state of 15.07.2025, so I lost a lot of data. How can I bring back yesterday's version?

    Hi Kinga,

My apology for the late response, use OneDrive Restore to roll back your entire account. Since your file reverted to July and recent versions are missing this likely indicates a sync or corruption issue. OneDrive includes a feature called Restore your OneDrive which allows you to return all files to a previous state within the last 30 days. This option is available for Microsoft 365 subscribers including Family plans.

To restore your OneDrive to yesterday, sign in to OneDrive online at onedrive.live.com. Open the Settings menu, choose Options and then select Restore your OneDrive. On the restore page, pick yesterday or set a custom date and time and review the activity feed to confirm the restore point. When ready select Restore this process will revert all files and folders to the state they were in at that time. Any files created after that date will be moved to your OneDrive Recycle Bin so you can recover them if needed.

    Regards,

    Marcelo

    Hello Kinga,

Thank you for reaching out about the issue with your Excel file on OneDrive. I understand how concerning it is to lose version history especially when important updates are missing. It can be frustrating to see your file revert to an older state and feel like your recent work is gone.

OneDrive automatically keeps previous versions of files for a certain period but if the version history appears lost it may be due to sync issues or versioning settings. You can try restoring an earlier version by signing in to OneDrive online, locating the file, right-clicking it and selecting Version history. From there you can preview available versions and either restore or download the one you need. If you use the OneDrive sync app you can also right-click the file in File Explorer and choose Version history. Keep in mind that personal accounts typically store the last 25 versions while work or school accounts depend on library configuration.

Could you confirm if you are using a personal Microsoft account or a work or school account?

I hope this answer is helpful if you have further questions feel free to reply back

    Regards,

    Marcelo
