Dear Microsoft Support, I'm experiencing a serious issue in Excel for Office 2024, which I purchased as a licensed product..." "When I click on a full row or a single cell, the selection is not visually highlighted. Sometimes it takes several clicks before anything shows. I've reinstalled Office four or five times, but the problem persists. Please help me resolve this as soon as possible. If you need any additional details, I can provide screenshots, videos, or system information."

Best regards, [REMOVED PII]

**Arkady Bravshtein,

If all the above (suggested by Norah-L) didn't help try the following:

**1. Disable Office User Interface Animations

In recent builds of Office, UI feedback animations cause input lag and invisible highlight bounding boxes.

Open Excel and go to File > Options > Accessibility.

Look for the Display options section.

Uncheck "Provide feedback with animations" (or turn off "Show animations in Office").

Click OK and restart Excel.

2. Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration (Registry Fix)

In Office 2021/2024, the hardware acceleration toggle was removed from the standard settings GUI and must be toggled via the Windows Registry if GPU rendering is failing:

Close all Office applications.

Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.

Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common

Right-click Common, select New > Key, and name it Graphics.

Inside the Graphics key, right-click the right pane, choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it DisableHardwareAcceleration.

Double-click DisableHardwareAcceleration and set its Value data to 1.

Click OK, close Registry Editor, and reopen Excel.

3. Adjust High-DPI Scaling Settings

If the employee is using multi-monitors, a laptop dock, or displays set to custom scaling (e.g., 125% or 150%):

Close Excel. Right-click the Excel shortcut (or excel.exe) and choose Properties.

Select the Compatibility tab.

Click Change high DPI settings.

Check Override high DPI scaling behavior and set Scaling performed by: to System (Enhanced) or Application.

Click Apply and launch Excel.

4. Clear Excel Display Cache (Delete User Options Key)

If a corrupted user profile configuration survived reinstallations:

Close Excel.

Open regedit (Win + R).

Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Excel

Rename the Options folder to Options.old.

Restart Excel (this regenerates clean user defaults).

    Dear Nora-L,

Thank you very much for your quick response and assistance.

I followed the method suggested by Micky Avidan and disabled the “Provide feedback with animation” option in Excel.

After disabling this option, everything returned to normal and the problem was completely resolved.

It appears that this setting was the cause of the issue.

Thank you again for your help.

    Best regards, Arkady

    ,Hello Arkady Bravshtein

This sounds more like an Excel display or add-in issue than a damaged Office installation, especially since reinstalling Office several times did not help.

Please try the options below and check whether the issue continues:

    1. Open a new blank workbook and test cell and row selection. If it works normally, the issue may be limited to the original workbook.
    2. Change the worksheet zoom level using the slider at the bottom-right of Excel. It is recommended that you test at 100%, then at 88% or lower, as changing the zoom level has resolved similar selection-display problems.
    3. Press Windows + R, enter excel /safe and press Enter. Test the selection again. If it works in Safe Mode, open File > Options > Add-ins, select COM Add-ins, choose Go, and disable the add-ins one at a time.
    4. Open File > Account > Update Options > Update Now, then restart the computer.

As a temporary workaround, use Shift + Space to select the current row.

If the problem remains, please provide the Windows version, Excel version and whether an external monitor is connected.

Please let me know how it goes after trying these steps, and I'll be glad to continue looking into it with you.
