Gmail sync issue in New Outlook - Deletions and filing do not reflect on Gmail

Hi Microsoft Support Team,

I am experiencing a persistent synchronization issue with my personal Gmail account inside the New Outlook client on Windows.

The Issue: Until 3 days ago, everything was working perfectly. Suddenly, without any changes made to my settings, the synchronization stopped working properly.

Now, when I delete an email or move (file) it into a folder/label within the New Outlook app, the changes do not sync back to Gmail. When I check Gmail via the web browser, the emails are still sitting in the inbox as if nothing happened.

What I've already tried:

  • Removing and re-adding the Gmail account in New Outlook.
  • Checking IMAP settings in my Google account (everything is enabled and untouched).
  • Waiting for a sync delay, but the changes never update on the server.

This completely disrupts my workflow as my inbox is not in sync across my devices. Since this started suddenly 3 days ago without any configuration changes on my end, I suspect it might be related to a recent update.

I would appreciate your guidance on how to fix this.

Thank you,

Danielle

    Hi, Danielle Leshem

This appears to be a problem with the two-way cloud synchronization between New Outlook and Gmail, rather than a basic IMAP setting. Similar cases show that incoming mail continues syncing while delete, move, and read-status changes fail to upload to Gmail.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Sign in to your Google Account, open Security > Third-party apps and services, and remove Microsoft’s access. Then remove Gmail from New Outlook, restart Windows, add the account again, and select Allow for all requested permissions. This rebuilds the connection rather than simply adding the same cached account again.

In Gmail on the web, open Settings > See all settings > Labels and make sure Show in IMAP is enabled for Inbox, Trash, All Mail, and any labels used for filing. Also ensure the destination folder is under the Gmail account, not a local-only folder.

If it still fails, use Gmail web or classic Outlook temporarily. In New Outlook, select Help > Support and submit the issue with the Outlook version number and the exact time of a failed test move. This may require a service-side fix rather than another account reset.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.
