Problem description

I am using Azure Automation to run PowerShell runbooks in the cloud environment, specifically in the France Central region. I have a runbook configured for the PowerShell 7.6 runtime, but during execution, $PSVersionTable.PSVersion reports version 7.6.0-preview.5. I expected either a GA build of 7.6 or confirmation that this prerelease is supported and intended. I also noticed that a runbook using PowerShell 7.4 reports version 7.4.6. I am concerned about whether this preview build is supported, when it might be updated to a GA build, and whether I can control or pin the exact PowerShell engine version in the cloud sandbox environment.

Environment

Azure Automation Process Automation in France Central region, using cloud runtime environments with PowerShell 7.6 and 7.4 versions.

What I've already tried

I checked the runtime version inside the job using $PSVersionTable.PSVersion. The PowerShell 7.6 runbook reports 7.6.0-preview.5, and the PowerShell 7.4 runbook reports 7.4.6. I reviewed Azure Automation documentation and self-help materials, which indicate that PowerShell 7.6 and 7.4 are supported runtime versions for cloud and hybrid jobs, but do not specify whether the 7.6 build shown is a preview or GA. I also compared with a 7.4 runbook to confirm version reporting. No additional troubleshooting steps or specific diagnostics are recorded.

Current status

I am seeking clarification on whether the PowerShell 7.6 preview build is supported and intended for use in Azure Automation, when it might be moved to a GA build, and if it is possible to control or pin the exact engine build version in the cloud sandbox environment. I want to ensure my runbooks are running on supported and stable runtime versions.
