Hello There,
Thank you for reaching out. We understand how concerning it can be to lose important files, especially when they’re stored in OneDrive. We're here to help you through this.
Step 1: Check the OneDrive Recycle Bin
Even if files appear to be deleted, they may still be recoverable:
- Sign in to OneDrive.
- Select Recycle Bin from the left-hand menu.
- If your files are listed, select them and click Restore.
Files typically remain in the Recycle Bin for up to 30 days (or 93 days for work/school accounts), unless manually emptied.
Step 2: Restore OneDrive to a Previous State
If you're using a Microsoft 365 account, you may be able to restore your entire OneDrive to a previous point in time:
- Go to your OneDrive settings.
- Click the gear icon → Options → Restore your OneDrive.
- Choose a date before the deletion occurred and follow the prompts.
This feature is especially helpful if multiple files were lost due to accidental deletion or malware.
Step 3: Contact Microsoft Support
If the files are no longer in the Recycle Bin and you’re unable to restore a previous version:
- Please visit Microsoft Support.
- Provide details such as the file names, approximate deletion date, and your account information.
- Our support team will do their best to assist you in recovering the files, if possible.
Step 4: Check Synced Devices
If your OneDrive was synced to a PC or mobile device:
- Open the local OneDrive folder (usually under C:\Users[YourName]\OneDrive).
- Check for any remaining copies of the files.
- You can also try restoring previous versions of folders by right-clicking and selecting Properties → Previous Versions.
We truly understand how frustrating this situation can be, and we’re committed to helping you recover your data. If you’d like, we can walk you through any of these steps together.
Please let us know how you'd like to proceed, and we’ll be here to support you every step of the way.
Warm regards,
Harold
