Teams synchronisation issue

Hi,

After a bad trial of a change into the ADConnect in our hybrid environnement the user are now restored and synchronized to Exchange and MS365 after a bad sync.

But even if all the settings are right into the Teams admin inferface, into the Teams application, for differents users and teams the roles are lost.
For instance on some teams only : no access to the Team/MS365 Group for a owner, files not available into a private channel for a member, user without access to the team is displayed into the Team but a search in member lists doesn't return it, ...

So a lot of issue since this bad sync.

I've try a clear of Teams cache without success.

The only way I've found to restore users rights is to change the role of a user :

  • member to owner to member to apply the good infos

or

  • suppress member to add it again

Do you know a good way to apply and refresh Teams rights with rights declared into the Teams admin panel and push them with the aadsync to Teams application ?

If I should do the tip above for more than 120 teams, it will be so long !

Thanks

Benjamin

    Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Furkaan, a user just like you. I’d be happy to help you with your concerns. I understand your frustration with the Teams synchronisation issue after the ADConnect issue. Manually fixing roles for 120 teams would be very time-consuming. Here are some approaches you can try to refresh Teams rights and avoid the manual process:

    Force Teams client refresh:

Instruct users to sign out of the Teams desktop app completely (right-click the icon and select "Quit"). Clear the Teams cache again (search for "%appdata%\Microsoft\Teams" and delete folders with "cache" in the name). Have them log back in. This can sometimes trigger a refresh of their permissions.

    Azure AD Connect synchronisation:

Double-check your AD Connect configuration to ensure it's syncing group memberships correctly. Verify filtering rules aren't excluding relevant users or groups. Initiate a full synchronisation cycle from the Azure AD Connect synchronisation service UI. This might take some time but can help push updated group memberships to Teams.

    PowerShell cmdlets (if comfortable):

Using PowerShell cmdlets like "Remove-AzureADGroupMember" and "Add-AzureADGroupMember" can update user memberships in Teams-connected Office 365 groups. Be cautious with this approach, as mistakes can lead to permission issues. Ensure you have a backup of group memberships before proceeding.

    Microsoft Support:

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, consider contacting Microsoft support. They can provide deeper analysis and potential solutions specific to your environment. Additional Tips:

While not ideal for a large number of teams, using the Teams web app can sometimes bypass local client sync issues and reflect updated permissions. Consider scripting the PowerShell commands (if you choose that route) to automate the process for multiple teams, but ensure proper testing before deployment.
