    Hello Mamadou Diallo

The error “Your current account type is not supported” typically occurs when the account you’re using is not eligible for the Azure offer or service you’re trying to access. In this case, the user was previously using an Azure for Students subscription successfully, but after signing up for Microsoft Fabric with the same university email, access to Azure was denied.

    • Azure for Students is tied to a specific account type (student verification via university email).
    • When the same email is linked to another Microsoft service (like Microsoft Fabric), it can sometimes change the account’s directory association or eligibility.
    • If the account is now part of an organizational tenant or linked to a different directory, Azure may block access under the student offer.

    Resolution Steps:

    Check Current Directory

    • Sign in to https://portal.azure.com and verify which directory you are in (click your profile → Switch Directory).
      • If you see multiple directories (e.g., your university tenant and Microsoft Fabric tenant), ensure you select the one where your student subscription exists.
    • Verify Subscription Status: Go to Subscriptions in the portal and confirm if your Azure for Students subscription is still active. If it’s missing, the subscription may have expired or been removed due to directory changes.
    • If Subscription Is Missing or Inaccessible
      • You cannot restore the old student subscription if the account type changed.
      • Create a new Microsoft account (personal email) and register for https://azure.microsoft.com/free/students/ again, using your university email for verification.
    • For IT Admins
      • If the account is now part of an organizational tenant, an admin can take control of the directory and assign appropriate roles, but this will not reinstate the student offer.
    • Azure for Students is a one-time offer per student. If the original subscription expired or was removed, you may need to switch to Pay-As-You-Go.
    • Linking the same email to multiple Microsoft services can cause directory conflicts.

    Thanks,

    Suchitra.
