Hi Olivia G.
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.
Based on the description you posted, it seems that you have an issue with Surface laptop go wherein the device is overheating and there is a loud fan noise on the device. This may be caused by some updates needed to be installed on your Surface or the driver hardware needed to be updated.
Let’s work together in finding the best solution to this issue. To get started, I will ask a few questions to further isolate the issue.
- When will this issue start to happen?
- How many minutes from when the Fan noise starts to happen?
- What application do you open when this fan noise happens?
- When the device overheating, it's this happen in one application open, or it happen any apps you open?
We will do some basic troubleshooting steps to further fix the issue.
- We will manually check the update on your Surface device. Select Start > Settings > Windows Update
- Next, we will be going to download and run the Surface diagnostic toolkit on your Surface. This toolkit will help us fix any hidden issue on the Surface device.
- Next, check the power settings: Make sure your laptop is set to the recommended power settings. You can access these settings by going to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
If still not fix the issue, we will run the power troubleshooter on your Surface laptop Go 2.
- Press the Windows key + I to open Windows Settings.
- Click on the System tab.
- In the right window, click on Troubleshoot.
- Scroll down to find the Power option and click the Run button next to it.
If it's still not working, we will be going to download and install the driver pack on your Surface laptop go 2. After downloading click the driver pack to install on your Surface and after installation the device will ask restart to apply changes.
After restarting, please observe if the issue happens again. If still happen the next steps is to reset the Surface device using the USB Recovery image to clear out that this is not a Software related concern.
After reset back to default and the issue still happens after you install all the update on the device. This is already a hardware issue on the Surface laptop Go2. For this case, please see these articles below for more details in getting service for the Surface laptop go 2:
