What is the recommended way to secure a website hosted on an on-premises server using Azure Front Door Premium?
I have some questions about how to properly secure a website hosted on an on-premises server using Azure Front Door Premium.
- Is it possible to securely protect websites hosted on on-premises servers with Azure Front Door Premium? If so, what is the Microsoft-recommended approach for doing so?
2. How should traffic between Azure Front Door and the origin server be restricted?
For example, in Azure you can restrict access to a virtual machine by using the AzureFrontDoor.Backend service tag in a Network Security Group (NSG). However, what is the recommended approach for an on-premises server?
I've seen recommendations suggesting that the firewall should allow only the IP ranges associated with Azure Front Door, but this doesn't seem like the best approach since those IP ranges can change over time. Is there a Microsoft-recommended best practice for this scenario?
3. What configuration or prerequisites should my on-premises server meet before being used as an Azure Front Door origin?
For example, does it need a public IP address, or are there any other networking, security, or configuration requirements that should be in place before placing the origin behind Azure Front Door Premium?
Thank you for your help. If you have any questions about my wording, I will try to explain it in a clearer way.
